MINES COMES HOME TO HOST WRITZ INDIVIDUAL
It's Homecoming weekend in Golden, and Colorado School of Mines golf will get in on the action as they host the Bob Writz Individual Sunday and Monday at Bear Creek in nearby Lakewood. The 36-hole event will feature the Orediggers' entire roster in a non-team-based format.

THE TOURNAMENT
The two-day, two-round tournament, named in honor of longtime Mines coach Bob Writz, will have tee times starting at 11 a.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday. Mines will be joined by entries from Colorado Mesa, CSU Pueblo, Colorado, and Colorado Christian. A live leaderboard will be available on GolfGenius; check the Mines Golf schedule page for the link when it becomes available.

Spectators are welcome at Bear Creek but should note that carts are not available.

THE FORECAST
More autumnal conditions are headed to the Front Range starting Sunday with a high of 64 under increasing clouds, with a chance for late rain, then 55 degrees and cloudy with showers on Monday. Overnight rain Sunday into Monday could affect the course, as well.

THE COURSE
Bear Creek is one of Colorado's most challenging layouts, playing 7,276 yards at par 72. The Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay design opened in 1985 and incorporates the natural beauty and wildlife of the area. Undulating greens and sloping fairways demand accurate shotmaking, with several holes providing long hitters with risk-reward decisions.

LAST TIME OUT
Mines split its squad earlier this week, taking part in the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya in Mexico and the Les Fowler Individual in Broomfield. In Mexico, Mines finished eighth as the scoring lineup clustered together on the leaderboard, with only three strokes separating the five. Mines was led by Colt Tenpenny, who finished T21, and Lukas Taggart came in T26 after a strong final 36 holes. Giacomo Gaggero, Lucas Schulte, and Liam Allan all finished tied for 28th.

At Colorado's Les Fowler Individual at Broadlands GC, Max Lange and Eric Casademont Vinyoles tied for 24th, and Zach Shallat was tied for 32nd.

FRESHMEN MAKE DEBUT
The Bob Writz Individual will mark the debut of Mines' developmental squad with five true freshmen - Davis Kushner, Enzo Martínez, Devin Nguyen, Alexander Samuelsson, and Mitch Stock - playing for the Orediggers. A new NCAA rule in 2025-26 allows true freshmen to compete in a limited number of dates while still maintaining their redshirt status, and the Orediggers will take advantage of that rule this week. All 15 members of the Mines roster will be in action at the Writz.

ALLAN GOES LOW
Liam Allan's second round at the San Juan Invitational saw him card a 64 (-7) on the par-71 course, Mines' lowest score in nearly a decade. The freshman's round was the Orediggers' lowest since George Markham shot 63 (also -7 on a par 70 course) at the 2016 Maverick Invitational; Nick Berry also carded 64 at the 2015 RMAC Championships with a program-record -8 result.

IN THE POLLS
Mines was picked in a tie for second in the RMAC preseason coaches' poll, tied with CSU Pueblo just behind Colorado Mesa while receiving a pair of first-place votes. Mines is also receiving votes in the second in-season GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Top 25.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Orediggers wrap up the fall Oct. 13-14 at the Otter Invitational in Seaside, Calif.
