#9 Orediggers Down Yellow Jackets Behind Jeans’ First Career Goal

SPEARFISH, S.D. – On the road once again Friday, the ninth-ranked Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team remained unbeaten in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play as they picked up a 1-0 in over Black Hills State at the Black Hills Power Sports Complex. Lindsay Jeans' first goal at the collegiate level was the difference for the Orediggers (5-1-1, 2-0-0) as they atoned for last season's draw with the Yellow Jackets (4-3-2, 1-2-0) by earning three points with the winning effort.

Kaitlyn Manalili had the first crack at Rian Barthel in the eighth minute of action and again in the 16th minute but came up empty twice. Callie Fuhr rattled the frame in the 22nd minute as the Orediggers pressed their attack while the defense stymied Black Hills State in the early going.

As the first half came and went with no change on the scoreboard, the second half saw a renewed effort from BHSU on their attack. Ainsley Wilson banged a shot off the cross bar in the 55th minute before Allie Lundgren went to work for the first time with a save against Peyton Hill in the 58th.

Finally in the 74th minute, the Orediggers broke through to take the lead. Following a throw in on the far side, Anna Gessner came up with the ball and played it toward the near post for Jeans. Battling a BHSU defender and the keeper Barthel Jeans, managed to elude both of them and flip the ball into the back of the net for what ended up being the go-ahead goal.

A flurry of substitutions came on for the Yellow Jackets after goal as they looked to answer the challenge thrown down by the Orediggers. Ashley Measles and Hill each took aim inside the final 15 minutes of play, but found the hands of Lundgren instead of the net. Leah Day attempted one final shot for the home team in the 89th minute, but she too was denied by the senior from California as Lundgren and the defense closed the book on their third shutout of the season with the win.
