Mines Club Esports had a standout week of competition from September 29 to October 3, showing strong performances across several titles while also learning from a couple of tough losses.
The week kicked off on Monday, September 29, with both League of Legends teams in action. The Varsity squad defeated Simpson University 2-0, with a strong Mel pick in game one setting the tone for an easy domination, while game two showcased their unique team strategies for another convincing win. Meanwhile, the Junior Varsity team secured their own 2-0 victory over Western New Mexico University, highlighted by an incredible three-man Oriana ultimate from DemoPls, followed by Nathan Okimoto's Quadra Kill on Yunara. On Tuesday, September 30, the Rocket League Varsity team bounced back from last week's loss to take a commanding 3-1 win over DePaul University. The Rainbow Six Varsity team also had a perfect night, defeating California State University San Bernardino 2-0.
Wednesday, October 1, saw the Overwatch Varsity team face a challenging match against Washington State University Crimson, ultimately falling 0-3. Despite the loss, players like Jake Cannon delivered standout moments, including a precise Overclock clip that secured a round. Watch the play here
The week continued strong for Valorant, with the Varsity team defeating University of British Columbia Okanagan 2-0 and Junior Varsity securing a 2-0 win over Neumont College of Computer Science on Thursday, October 2. Varsity's Jackson Bonneau shined with a +14 K/D in the series, while JV's Glenn Pocasangre-Cooper posted an incredible +29 K/D, highlighting the team's dominance across the board.
The week wrapped up on Friday, October 3, with Counter-Strike Varsity facing Ohio State in a nail-biter. After a dominant Map 1 win (13-4), Ohio State rallied to take Maps 2 and 3, resulting in a narrow 1-2 defeat for Mines. Despite the loss, the team showed tremendous skill and composure, promising a strong rebound in future matches.
Overall, it was another successful week for Mines Club Esports. With victories in League of Legends, Rocket League, Rainbow Six, and Valorant, the teams continue to demonstrate their skill and versatility across multiple competitive titles. While Overwatch and Counter-Strike provided tough losses, the season is off to an exciting start, and Mines looks to build on this momentum in the coming weeks.
