#7 Mines Cruises To Victory Over Adams State

GOLDEN, Colo. – Back at Stermole Stadium for the final time in the regular season, the seventh ranked Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team saw three different players score Sunday afternoon on their way to a 3-1 win over Adams State. The Orediggers (12-2-2, 9-1-1) scored first in the fourth minute and never looked back as Gaby Guerrero, Natalie Rouse and Bella Campos led the way and though the Grizzlies (7-7-3, 3-6-2) did manage a late goal, it did little to affect the outcome of the match.

Mines wasted little time taking the lead as in the fourth minute, Bella Campos was taken down inside the box by Natalia Toledo and a penalty kick awarded. Gaby Guerrero stepped to the spot for the first time this fall and had no trouble converting as the blasted a shot by Ashlyn Bartley to open the scoring. The 17th minute saw the Orediggers double their lead on a set piece by none other than Natalie Rouse. After being awarded a corner kick, Kaitlyn Manalili set the action back in motion as her kick to the far side of the six was headed home back to the near post by Rouse to make it 2-0 Mines.

After taking command of the match in the opening period, the Orediggers added to their advantage in the second half as Campos scored her third goal of the weekend in the 59th minute. After having her first two shots of the half saved by new keeper Kena Keyes, Campos finally succeeded in scoring as she finished off a long ball ahead from Manalili for her 15th goal of the season to make it a 3-0 lead.

Adams State broke up the shutout in the 69th minute with a second chance goal by Ashlyn De Lemos. A corner kick by the Grizzlies' Lorena Vargas Galvin was played back in and initially shot by Annabell Haugen. Haugen's first shot was saved by the defense, but the rebound caromed right back to De Lemos who was able to take advantage of the scrum in front of the net to make it a 3-1 game.

ASU looked to use that goal to rally down the stretch as they utilized a flurry of substitutions in the final 20 minutes. Emma Thomas, who took over for Allie Lundgren in the second half, rebounded from the goal and made one of her best saves of the season on an 86th minute volley by Vargas-Galvan as Adams State looked to make it a one-score game in the waning moments. After the ensuing corner kick was cleared away, the Orediggers played out the clock as they capped an unbeaten regular season at home for the sixth time in program history with the win.
