Mines Rocket League Takes 2nd at RMCS Championship; League of Legends Varsity & JV Sweep First-Round Playoffs

It was a huge week for Mines Club Esports as Rocket League Varsity earned a podium finish at the RMCS Championship and both League of Legends rosters swept their opening playoff rounds.

Rocket League — Varsity Places 2nd at Fall 2025 RMCS Championship

Mines Rocket League Varsity capped their season with a remarkable 2nd-place finish at the Fall 2025 RMCS Championship, demonstrating strong teamwork and consistent high-level play throughout the event. While no highlights were available, their performance deserved recognition as one of the strongest runs of the semester.

League of Legends — Varsity Sweeps Northeastern Illinois in Quarterfinals

Mines Varsity defeated Northeastern Illinois University 2–0 in a high-energy quarterfinal series.

Game 1 began with Mines adjusting to a role swap and substitute player, but their late-game execution shined. After securing two Barons, the Orediggers closed out the win—even while trailing in kills 29–34—thanks to coordinated teamfights.
Strong performances came from Anthony "acircularsaw" Ha (Senna) and Seth "CookieDoge" Fry (Mel), who provided the damage needed to secure key fights.

Game 2 was far more controlled. Jonah "wiz" Oliver (Jarvan IV) set the tempo early with objective pressure, and substitute Chris "seratag" Festros (Rell) delivered a clutch multi-man engage that enabled a devastating four-man wombo combo when paired with Jarvan IV and Orianna ultimates. Mines took the fight 4–2 and never looked back.

Varsity now holds a 16–0 game score and 8–0 match record in PCL play.

League of Legends — JV Sweeps VCU After Lineup Struggles and Scheduling Drama

Mines JV earned a decisive 2–0 victory over Virginia Commonwealth University, despite major roster complications leading into match day.

Because three Mines players had an exam, the team submitted 15 reschedule requests, all ultimately rejected—forcing Mines to play with three substitute players:
Keagan "Green/Krin," Sean "SlimeOID," and Benny "Theuglyuse."

Game 1 was a landslide win, highlighted by the Mines ADC finally securing their main champion Yunara for the first time all season—leading to a dominant 10/1 finish and double the gold of the opposing ADC.

Game 2 featured expert draft strategy. Mines first-picked Hwei, baiting VCU into misreading the composition, then assigned Hwei to mid while bot lane counter-picked with Vayne + Yuumi. Although the enemy's top-lane Varus became a threat in the late game, Mines secured the final teamfight behind a massive 17/4 Vayne performance to close out the series.

While Mines lost access to the replays due to a patch, VCU streamed the match:
