Regional Results Give Mines XC National Berths

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines women's cross country team finished third and the men finished second on Saturday at the South Central Regional Championships, guaranteeing both squads a trip to the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships.
 
The women's 6K race started the day, and the Orediggers came through with 82 points to clinch their automatic qualifier for the national meet. Emily LaMena (4th), Lexi Herr (12th), and Sierra Wall (13th) provided a trio of all-region (top-25) performances to secure the team finish. Adams State was first with 42 points, and UCCS was second with 74 points. The men's 10K race saw Mines' men post a tally of 62 points, just 12 points back of regional champion Adams State. Each of the Oredigger scorers were all-region. Jeremiah Vaille was sixth, Max Bonenberger took 10th, Cody Wyman crossed 12th, Jake Schwarting was 14th, and Daniel Appleford capped it at 20th. Western Colorado's men captured the third, and final automatic qualifier with 75 points and team bronze.
 
Katie Price, Callen Nash, Margaux Basart, and Gabi Boeckman also raced for the Oredigger women. Price and Nash went back-to-back in 26th and 27th. Basart was seconds behind that duo at 29th. Boeckman gave Mines seven finishes in the top-33. Charlie Welch and Braden Struhs were the men's displacers. Welch crossed the finish line 33rd and Struhs took 80th. Individual regional champions were Tristian Spence from Adams State and Weldon Chebon from New Mexico Highlands.
 
WHAT'S NEXT
With their team finishes in the top three, Mines' men and women are both assured to race at the 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships on November 22 in Kenosha, Wisc. The official national field will be announced by the NCAA early next week. All postseason awards, updates, and news will be announced on social media and at www.minesathletics.com.
