Tipoff Finale Gets Away from Orediggers

BILLINGS, Mont. – Sunday's D2CCA Tipoff at the Trailhead finale got away from the Mines women's basketball team as the Orediggers dropped a 61-50 decision to MSU Billings.
 
Jenna Shandy scored 12 points and had two steals. Lindsey Jones' five rebounds were top on the team. Emily Thomas and Jade Leon dished out two assists each. Mines (0-3) shot over 40 percent, but lost the battle on the glass and in turnovers. The hosts, MSU Billings (2-1), grabbed more rebounds, had more steals, and committed fewer turnovers to get the win. Four three-pointers and 15 made free throws helped the Yellow Jackets to their second win of the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
A 15-16 first quarter and a 12-11 second quarter brought the game to halftime with the score tied at 27. However, MSU Billings grabbed a 13-12 edge in the third quarter and dominated the fourth quarter, 21-10. Quincey Baum dropped four points in the final period. Shandy and Leon combined for eight points in the third period. The final margin that made the most difference was four three-pointers for MSUB and one for the Orediggers. A 36-28 rebound margin also went in favor of the home team.

- Mines is 1-2 in its last three meetings with MSU Billings.
- True freshman Sophia Baal had a block and a steal Sunday night.
