OREDIGGERS JUMP INTO NEW INDOOR SEASON
The indoor track & field season starts with a bang this weekend as Colorado School of Mines hosts the Mines Alumni Classic at Steinhauer Fieldhouse, while also taking on the nation's distance elite at Boston University's Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. It's the first of two weekends of track & field before the holiday break as the Orediggers look for a strong start to 2025-26.
LIVE COVERAGE
Both of this weekend's meets will be streamed on pay-per-view platforms, with every event of the Mines Alumni Classic on the
RMAC Network and the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener streaming on
FloTrack. Live results for the Alumni Classic are available at
minesathletics.com/tracklive, and
lancertiming.com has the BU meet results.Â
Starting this year, the RMAC Network has moved to a pay-per-view model for all events. Fans can purchase monthly and annual subscriptions that will provide them access to all regular-season, championship, and archived broadcasts on the RMAC Network; for track & field, there is also a day-pass option to view multiple event streams in the same day. A monthly subscription costs $25, and an annual subscription costs $130. Single-game/day passes are available for $10, which grants access for 24 hours. For technical support questions, fans can contactÂ
Hudl Support or email the RMAC directly (
rmac@rmacsports.org).Â
For further support, fans can visit the RMAC Network Help page.
FAN INFO
Fans attending the Mines Alumni Classic should park in the parking garage at 1350 Maple St. (west of Steinhauer Fieldhouse) or in Lot S at 1250 Maple St. (to the northwest of Steinhauer Fieldhouse). Parking is paid before 5 p.m. Friday, and free all day Saturday. Bleacher seating is available for fans in Steinhauer Fieldhouse; no dogs are allowed inside the fieldhouse. There is no admission charge for the Alumni Classic. Fans attending Friday evening's events will want to avoid arriving through downtown Golden due to the city's annual Candlelight Walk event; the best access to campus will be from the 19th Street exit of US6.Â
WHAT TO WATCH - GOLDEN
The Mines Alumni Classic will kick off Friday with the pole vault, shot put, and long jump events, with Saturday's sprint-heavy track session featuring only 800m and shorter distances while the weight throw, triple jump, and high jump are in the field. Mines will compete against RMAC rivals UCCS, MSU Denver, and Regis while also welcoming competitors from Colorado. Among numerous Orediggers opening their seasons are three defending RMAC indoor champions from a year ago: 800m winner
Tim Thompson, pentathlon champ
Avery Wright in the 60m hurdles and long jump, and weight throw champion
Jennifer Jarnagin. The Alumni Classic schedule will be finalized Wednesday night with this article and the season schedule updated when it is; entries and start lists will be posted to the
meet's live results page.
WHAT TO WATCH - BOSTON
At BU's famously fast indoor track, Mines will have nine competitors chase nationally-elite times in the 5,000m and mile as they come off of cross country season. It will be nothing but all-Americans on the track for the Orediggers as
Margaux Basart,
Lexi Herr,
Emily LaMena,
Grace Strongman, and
Sierra Wall compete in the 5K after scoring in Mines' second-place NCAA cross country finish two weeks ago; the men also put multi-time all-Americans
Paul Knight,
Dawson Gunn, and
Ethan Grolnic in the 5K.
Brock Drengenberg, who helped Mines' DMR to fifth place at nationals last year, will run the mile. The mile will start the day for Mines at 12:25 p.m. ET, and the women's 5K heats start at 4:30 p.m. ET with the men to follow at 7:10 p.m. ET.
A HISTORIC FALL SEASON
The 2025 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships are still fresh on the Orediggers' minds after two team podium finishes and nine all-American performances on Nov. 22 in Wisconsin. The Mines women had a historic finish placing second overall - their best ever showing - led by
Grace Strongman's second-place run, with
Emily LaMena and
Lexi Herr adding top-10 performances and
Sierra Wall and
Margaux Basart also finishing in the top 35. The men placed third - their 10th consecutive top-three trophy - led by
Paul Knight's fourth-place finish, with
Dawson Gunn,
Ethan Grolnic, and
Max Bonenberger also earning all-America spots.
THE CHAMPS ARE HERE
It's been a tremendous last few years for the Mines women's track & field and cross country programs, and that reached a new level in October when the Orediggers won the RMAC women's cross country championship for the first time. With the title, Colorado School of Mines became the first institution in the RMAC to win conference championships in every sport it sponsors. In addition to the XC win, this decade, the women have won RMAC indoor track & field titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and won their first-ever outdoor crown in 2024 as well.Â
RECORD SETTERS
Mines heads into the new season with a strong group of active program recordholders returning for 2025-26. For the men,
Jonah Fallon (400m) and
Franklin Rambo (shot put) set new individual marks last year, while every piece of the 4x400 relay (
Liam Currie,
Logan Meade,
Tim Thompson, and Fallon) plus three of four legs of the distance medley relay (Drengenberg, Fallon, and Thompson) return from last year's record-setting groups. The women welcome back
Margaux Basart (3,000m) and
Avery Wright (60m hurdles and pentathlon) as individual recordholders, while
Grace Galvin is also a member of Mines' record-holding 4x400 and distance medley relays, joined by
Imani Fernandez-Gorbea on the DMR.
LOOKING AHEAD
Mines will compete at the Colorado Running Company Pre-Holiday Invite at UCCS on Dec. 12-13.Â
