GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines Men's Club Soccer team concluded their 2025 fall campaign with a spirited performance at the Regional Tournament in Round Rock, Texas. While the team finished with a 3-4-3 regular season record, they played their highest-quality soccer of the year on the biggest stage, capping the season with a dominant 6-1 victory over the University of South Dakota.
Regional Tournament Heartbreak & Triumph
The Orediggers' trip to Regionals was defined by razor-thin margins and a resilient finish. The weekend opened with a defensive battle against Kansas, where a scoreless deadlock was broken late after goalkeeper Erik Moore suffered an unfortunate ankle injury on the play, resulting in a tough 0-1 loss.
In their second matchup against Grand Canyon University (GCU), Mines showed grit in a back-and-forth affair. Trailing early, Robbie Mabbs leveled the score in the second half, but a last-minute chip goal by GCU dealt Mines a heartbreaking 1-2 defeat, ending their title hopes.
However, the team rallied in the season finale, delivering a statement 6-1 win over South Dakota. It was a complete team effort, with the offense "spreading the wealth" among four different goal scorers to end the year on a high note.
Regular Season Highlights
The Orediggers proved their mettle early in the season with back-to-back rivalry wins. Robbie Mabbs played the hero against Air Force (Sept. 13), scoring the game-winning goal off a corner kick in a 2-1 victory. A week later, Tom Clemens put on an MVP performance against the University of Denver, bagging both goals in a 2-1 win.
The team's resilience was most evident on September 27 against Colorado Mesa. Trailing 1-3, Mines mounted a furious comeback to earn a 3-3 draw, proving they could battle back against tough deficits.
Community & Support
Off the pitch, the club saw significant engagement from the Mines community. The team's Goldmine fundraising campaign was a success, raising $2,161 from 13 donors. Their digital presence also grew, with social media posts reaching over 8,700 accounts throughout the semester.
