Grizzlies Halt Mines with Second-Half Push

GOLDEN, Colo. – A strong second-half for Adams State on Saturday afternoon resulted in an 88-78 loss for the Colorado School of Mines Women's Basketball inside Lockridge Arena.

A 26-point day for Jenna Siebert led the Orediggers. She produced four rebounds, four assists, and one steal as well. Josephine Howery poured in 17 points on 6-of-8 shooting and added four rebounds, three assists, and one block. Emma Sixta's afternoon featured 12 points, five rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and one assist. Jade Leon pitched in a block and Peyton Freiermuth handed out three assists. Adams State's top player was Taejhuan Hill who notched a 29-point, 13-rebound double-double.

Mines (8-12, 6-6 RMAC) held edges in shooting percentage, made three-pointers, rebounds, assists, and blocked shots. However, Adams State (13-8, 8-4 RMAC) forced 20 Oredigger turnovers, leading to 28 points while committing just 12 turnovers. The Grizzlies also took advantage of 34 free-throw opportunities, converting 28. Mines only missed one of its 17 free throws. Overall, the contest featured two ties and nine lead changes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Orediggers started the game hot like fire in front of a crowd filled with Mines Basketball Alumni. They shot over 70 percent in the first quarter on the way to a 26-21 lead. Eight first-quarter points off the hand of Siebert highlighted the strong start. Mines' offense dipped slightly in the second quarter, but the defense flexed and limited Adams State to four field goals on 16 attempts. Three steals on four ASU turnovers helped the home team go to the locker room with a 40-34 advantage. Unfortunately for Mines, halftime gave the Grizzlies new life. They exploded for 27 points in the third quarter and took a 61-60 lead despite nine more points from Siebert. The final frame felt like a back-and-forth battle, but in reality, ASU shot 70 percent and used free throws down the stretch to close out the win.
