LAST TIME OUT
Mines had a solid outing at Kansas State's Steve Miller Invitational last Friday, led by
Franklin Rambo's second-place program-record in the shot put (more on that in a moment).
Abbi Gillespie hit the #2 all-time weight throw at Mines with an 18.11m throw,
Hayley Rayburn cleared 4.32m in the pole vault, and
Emily LaMena ran the second-fastest 3K by an Oredigger in 9:29.99.
Jonah Fallon was second in the Invite 400m with a second consecutive sub-48 time of 47.57.
RAMBO SETS SHOT PUT RECORD
Franklin Rambo became the latest Oredigger to snap a program record this season as his huge personal best gave him the Mines indoor shot put record at Kansas State last weekend. The last qualifier into finals, Rambo sent a meter-plus PR of 17.77m to break Arvid Veidmark IV's previous record of 17.52m set in 2022. That means both men's throws records have fallen this winter (along with
Holden Murphy's 19.69m weight throw) while
Kitt Rupar broke the women's shot put (14.57m) and
Abbi Gillespie threw the #2 women's weight throw (18.11m) in what has been a breakout season for the Oredigger throwers.
IN THE POLLS
Mines stayed in the top 10 of this week's USTFCCCA indoor ratings index for a third consecutive week as the men maintained their #3 ranking and women rose a spot to #7. The men's ranking is equal to its best since the 2022 season and was their best debut poll since 2020. The women's #6 ranking three weeks ago marked their best poll debut ever.
FRONT OF THE PACK
Closing in on the postseason, Mines has two individuals who rank atop their respective events in NCAA Division II:
Loic Scomparin (3K, 7:43.96) and
Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge (5K, 15:40.98) lead the national performance list, and both Scomparin and Ramsey-Rutledge's performances were NCAA Division II records in those events. A number of Orediggers rank in their respective event's top five including
Tim Thompson (800),
Everett Delate (60m),
Hunter Potrykus (PV),
Hayley Rayburn (PV),
Paul Knight (5K), Scomparin (mile and 5K),
Avery Wright (pentathlon), and the men's distance medley relay. All national performance list marks are converted for altitude and track size.Â
RECORD SETTERS
The 2024-25 Oredigger squad now includes 14 active individual recordholders, plus one relay. For the men,
Loic Scomparin (3K),
Everett Delate (60H),
Jonah Fallon (400), the men's 4x400,
Holden Murphy (WT),

Avery Wright (60H and pentathlon),
Margaux Basart (3K),

THE CHAMPS ARE HERE, PART I
Mines men's cross country lifted its fourth NCAA Division II national championship since 2015 on Nov. 23, coming back in the final two kilometers to edge Wingate in a thrilling race in Sacramento.
Logan Bocovich,
Loic Scomparin, and
Ethan Grolnic finished 7-8-9 while
Paul Knight was 21st and
Dawson Gunn 25th to beat the Bulldogs by three points. The women placed fifth led by
Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge, whose third-place individual run marked the best finish ever by an Oredigger woman.
THE CHAMPS ARE HERE, PART II
The Mines indoor program made history in 2023-24 by winning both the RMAC men's and women's championships, the first time in program history they have won both at the same time. It was the second consecutive title for the women and the third since 2016 for the men.Â
