D2CSC Media Poll Feb. 25
GOLDEN, Colo. – After locking up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season title last week, the Colorado School of Mines men's basketball team saw their stock rise in the latest national polls announced Tuesday, breaking into the top five at #5 in the NABC Division II Coaches Poll while moving up to #6 in the D2 CSC Media Poll.
The top five ranking by the NABC this week is the first appearance by Mines in the top five since the 2021-22 pre-season national poll in which the Orediggers were also ranked #5. Prior to that, Mines spent six weeks ranked at #1 in the 2020-21 season in which they won the West region and made an NCAA Elite Eight appearance.
Mines (23-3, 17-1) went 2-0 last week and clinched their first outright Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season title since 2019 with an 83-52 rout of Regis last Thursday night. The Orediggers started the week with a 66-61 win over MSU Denver in downtown as they ran their winning streak to eight games, their second such streak of the season.
The first four teams in the coaches poll remained the same as Daemen took 11 first places votes this week followed by Nova Southeastern with five in second. Alabama Huntsville and Washburn remained three and four as the Orediggers moved up two spots and replaced Dallas Baptist as the final team in the top five.
Meanwhile the top three in the media poll remained the same with Nova Southeastern leading the way behind seven first place ballots followed by Daemen with five. Washburn earned one in third while Alabama Huntsville moved up to fourth and West Liberty to fifth after DBU dropped to #10.
The Orediggers close the regular season this week on the road first against UCCS Thursday night followed by a Saturday evening matchup with CSU Pueblo.
