CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
The Oredigger women are the two-time defending RMAC indoor champions, winning in 2023 and 2024, while the men won their sixth title all-time last year. It marked the first time in program history that both Oredigger teams won titles on the same day. This year, the Oredigger men hope to complete the second leg of the RMAC triple crown having already won the conference cross country title in the fall.
WHAT TO WATCH - FRIDAY
Friday's slate is heavy on field finals, beginning with the men's weight throw at 8 a.m. Friday. It's an event Mines has circled with top-seeded
Holden Murphy leading the RMAC this season with his school-record 20.06m performance. The men's pole vault (10 a.m.) features defending co-champions
Hunter Potrykus and
Aidan Bennett, who are two of the event's top five seeds along with
Noah Kelly, with
Shane Conley and
Jay Peonio also point-scoring threats. Mines hopes to continue its dominance in the women's pole vault (2 p.m.) as well with the top two (and four of the top five) seeds in
Hayley Rayburn,
Dale Thompson,
Ava Kowalski, and
Taylor Hindman, plus
Madeline Obuchowski and
Maddie Kelly.
Claire Kintzley will start her meet with the women's long jump (4 p.m.), and the women's weight throw (6 p.m.) bookends what could be a strong Mines Friday as
Jennifer Jarnagin and
Abbi Gillespie enter as the top two seeds with
Kitt Rupar and
Audrey Ott also in the mix.Â
Friday's track slate (1 p.m.) has only two finals, but there is plenty of point-scoring potential for Mines in both the 5,000m and distance medley relay. The second head of the men's 5K is loaded with Orediggers, including top seeds
Paul Knight and
Loic Scomparin, plus
Jeremiah Vaille,
Daniel Appleford,
Logan Bocovich,
Dawson Gunn, and
Ethan Grolnic;
Braden Struhs will run in the first heat as well. The women's field is led by national recordholder
Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge joined by
Margaux Basart,
Emily LaMena, and
Callen Nash in the top heat, with
Josie Mejia running the opener. Mines will have a strong women's DMR with
Grace Strongman,
Maya Evans,
Avary Catchings, and Ramsey-Rutledge, while the men will put a new lineup of
Shalom Trowbridge,
Austin Schmidt,
Owen Schneider, and
Andreas O'Malley out on track. Friday track prelims including the 60m hurdles, 60m dash, and 200m and 400m dashes; the hurdles are highlighted by defending champ and RMAC recordholder
Everett Delate plus 2024 finalist
Coulton Chan; the women will run top-seeded
Avery Wright and
Lisa Sutherland (in addition to their multi duties) plus
Allison Comer.
Tegan Daughters qualified for the men's 60m and 200m dashes, and Mines looks to advance multiple 400m runners with Evans, Comer,
Grace Galvin, and
Aani Hardesty in the women's prelims, and
Austin Schmidt,
Elijah Quinby,
Jonah Fallon,
Ollie Sehr, and
Liam Currie in the men's heats.
Friday will also have the women's pentathlon plus day 1 of the men's heptathlon; defending pentathlon silver medalist
Avery Wright joins
Lisa Sutherland in the women's multi, while
Jake LaFore,
Nick Stade, and
Vaughn Hafner go after the men's heptathlon podium.
WHAT TO WATCH - SATURDAY
Saturday starts out with the conclusion of the men's heptathlon (9:45 a.m.), and the field schedule begins for Mines with the men's shot put final at 11 a.m. , where RMAC leader
Franklin Rambo and 2024 silver medalist
Brody Welch are joined by
Holden Murphy and
Keaton Reiman. Top-seeded
Claire Kintzley competes in the women's triple jump at 11 a.m., while
Vaughn Hafner adds the men's high jump to his already busy schedule at 1:30 p.m. The women's shot put is one of the RMAC's deepest events and it ends the field schedule at 1:30 p.m. with 2024 bronze medalist Rupar, Jarnagin, and Wright all entered for Mines.Â
Saturday's track finals start with the 60m hurdles and dash finals at noon, and the mile (12:45 p.m.) will have top-seeded
Brock Drengenberg and
Andreas O'Malley in the men's race, and
Grace Strongman and
Lexi Herr for the women, before the 400m final takes the track at 1:20 p.m.
Tim Thompson is the #1 seed in the men's 800m (1:40 p.m.), entered along with
Owen Schneider, while
Avary Catchings is a scoring threat in the women's race.
Margaux Basart,
Emily LaMena, and
Lexi Herr run the women's 3,000m final at 2:55 p.m., and the men will load up with top-seeded
Loic Scomparin joined by
Alberto Campa,
Max Bonenberger, and
Ethan Grolnic. If the meet comes down to the 4x400 relays, Mines will have strong entries in both with Catchings, Comers, Evans, and Galvin on the women's relay and the RMAC-leading combo of Currie, Fallon, Daughters, and Sehr on the men's baton.
IN THE POLLS
Mines stayed in the top 10 of the most recent USTFCCCA indoor ratings index for a third consecutive poll as the men maintained their #3 ranking and women rose a spot to #7.
