Lucas Schulte's career day led Colorado School of Mines to a tie for sixth at the one-day Hot Dirt Desert Shootout at GC of Estrella in Arizona.
Schulte shot his first career under-par tournament to match his best collegiate finish in a tie for 21st to lead Mines, which ended up +2 for the day on rounds of 288 and 290.
Schulte carded rounds of 68 and 75 to settle at -1, while
Colt Tenpenny surged in the afternoon's second round with a 70 after a first-round 74 to finish 24th at even par. In his hometown,
Carter Lolli finished 36th at +2 on a pair of 73s, and
Max Lange was 37th at +3 shooting 75 and 72.
Lukas Taggart counted his first round of 73 before a second-round 82 put him 67th at +11.
#1 Colorado Christian won the tournament at an impressive -35 led by medalist Adam Duncan (-12); #27 Colorado Mesa was second at -18 followed by #14 Cal State East Bay a stroke behind.
Mines stays in Arizona to play in The Stack Cougar-Burro Collegiate starting Sunday.
