HAYS, Kan. -
Colt Tenpenny's runner-up finish led Colorado School of Mines to sixth place as they wrapped up play at the FHSU Tiger Classic at Smoky Hill CC.
On a blustery Tuesday, players finished the second round and rolled into the third as the wind sent scores soaring across the board. No team finished under par as #5 Central Oklahoma won at +10; Mines was +36 after finishing the second round with a 293 and the third at 301.
After his first-round 67 put him in contention, Tenpenny finished his second round at an even-par 70 before carding 74 in the final round to land at +1 overall, a shot ahead of Fort Hays State's Cooper Scheck. UCO's Jordan Wilson was the only player under par for the tournament, winning at -7.
Tenpenny's second-place finish is his best as an Oredigger and fifth top-10 overall as a collegian. It is Mines' first top-five finish of the season.
Max Lange was next on the leaderboard for Mines at T26 (+10) after a final-round 75, and
Lukas Taggart also shot 75 to end up T47 (+15).
Lucas Schulte and
Carter Lolli both carded final-round 77s; Schulte ended up T56 (+16) and Lolli was a shot behind for T63.
Mines will wrap up the regular season next week, playing in the RJGA Palm Valley Classic in Arizona on April 7-8.
