Mines Club Baseball Defeat Thunderwolves In High-Scoring Affair

Bats were blistered as Mines Club Baseball bested Thunderwolves 20-10 on Sunday at Rawlings Field. Mines Club Baseball collected 12 hits, while Thunderwolves had nine.

Mines Club Baseball jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Skylor Wild tripled, scoring two runs, Caden Wells tripled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and DJ Miller grounded out, scoring one run.

Thunderwolves scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning. Jacob Kuhn doubled, scoring one run, Sam Atencio singled, scoring one run, #6 drew a walk, scoring one run, and David McAlpin singled, scoring two runs.

In the top of the second inning, Mines Club Baseball went back into the lead after Roman Williams singled, Thunderwolves committed an error, Mekhi Berthe grounded out, and lan Szura singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Thunderwolves tied the game in the bottom of the second thanks to a triple by Ethan Mauger, a walk by Gaige Hilferty, and a double by Atencio.

Mines Club Baseball captured the lead, 13-9, in the top of the third after Wells walked, Christian McCollam walked, Berthe hit a sacrifice fly, and Mark Zendejas singled down the left field line, each scoring one run.

Carter Rohrig pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for Mines Club Baseball. The right-handed pitcher allowed six hits and five runs while, striking out five and walking three. Max Cornelius led things off on the mound for Mines Club Baseball. The starting pitcher allowed three hits and five runs over one-third of an inning, striking out none and walking three. CJ Lucero started on the hill for Thunderwolves. The starter allowed six hits and nine runs (three earned) over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three.

Mines Club Baseball piled up 12 hits in the game. Szura, Wild, and Williams each collected two hits for Mines Club Baseball. Szura, McCollam, and Berthe each drove in three runs for Mines Club Baseball. Mines Club Baseball had patience at the plate, accumulating 12 walks for the game. Wells and Rohrig led the team with two bases on balls each. McCollam stole two bases. Mines Club Baseball ran wild on the base paths, collecting three stolen bases for the game.

Thunderwolves collected nine hits in the game. Atencio provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Thunderwolves with three runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-4 on the day. Kuhn, Atencio, Mauger, and McAlpin each collected two hits for Thunderwolves. Thunderwolves had a strong eye at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Kuhn and Hilferty led the team with two walks each.

Mines Club Baseball welcome Metro State University on Saturday for their next game.
