DISTANCE RUNNERS HEAD TO CALIFORNIA
Colorado School of Mines' distance squad will get its outdoor season in full swing this weekend as they head to California for a pair of Bay Area-meets. Mines will compete at both the Mike Fanelli Track Classic at San Francisco State University, and the Stanford Invitational, throughout the day on Friday. Locally, Mines will not be participating in the Jerry Quiller Classic in Boulder this weekend after the forecast for snow canceled the meet.
LIVE COVERAGE
Live results for both meets are linked above. The Mike Fanelli Track Classic will also stream live on FloTrack for subscribers.
THE SCHEDULE
At San Francisco State, Mines will have two runners entered in the women's 5,000m at the Mike Fanelli Classic with
Callen Nash and
Lexi Herr both in section 2 set to start after 9 a.m. PT on Friday.
At Stanford, Mines will have eight athletes competing, but heat sheets and specific start times will not be announced until Thursday evening.
Margaux Basart and
Emily LaMena are entered in the women's steeplechase,
Alex Shaw and
Max Bonenberger are in the men's steeplechase,
Grace Strongman in the women's 1,500m,
Daniel Appleford will run the men's 5,000m, and
Paul Knight and
Logan Bocovich are in the 10,000m. Stanford has been good to the Orediggers over the years - three current program distance records and 12 all-time top-10 performances have been set on that track.

Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge at The TEN in California, where she ran the D-II all-time #3 and new RMAC-record 10,000m in 32:31.16.

MINES TRIO WINS RMAC WEEKLY HONORS
For their performances last weekend, Mines athletes won three of the four RMAC weekly awards:
Everett Delate was the RMAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week,
Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge was the RMAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week, and for the second straight time,
Jennifer Jarnagin earned the RMAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honor.

Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge the co-women's track athlete of the year, and
Avery Wright the women's field athlete of the year to headline the 2025 All-RMAC teams for the indoor track & field season announced April 1. Mines accumulated 38 all-RMAC honors in total, with four Orediggers -
Allison Comer (60m hurdles, 400m),
Emily LaMena (3K, 5K),
Loic Scomparin (3K, 5K), and
Avery Wright (pentathlon, 60m hurdles, shot put) - recording multiple honors.Â
MINES MEN TOP PROGRAM OF THE YEAR STANDINGS
The Mines men were first and the women fifth after the indoor season in the USTFCCCA's Program of the Year standings announced last week. The award combines NCAA team finishes in all three seasons - cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field - to crown the best overall program nationally each spring. Teams get the same number of points as their finish, and the Mines men lead the standings with four points (first in cross country, third indoors) and the women are fifth with 16 (fifth in cross country, 11th indoors). It marks the Mines men's lowest point total through the first two seasons after they notched their best-ever NCAA Indoor finish earlier this month.
SPARKS, VAN SICKLE WIN REGIONAL COACHING HONORS
Mines head coach
Matt Sparks and middle distance coach
Scott Van Sickle earned the USTFCCCA's South Central Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year awards, respectively, on March 21. Sparks, in his 12th year as the Orediggers' head coach, led the men's team to a best-ever third-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, earning First-Team All-America honors in six events including three silver medals. Mines also finished in second at the RMAC Indoor Championships despite scoring its most points ever with 160, winning six men's events. Van Sickle guided the Oredigger middle distance runners to a resurgent 2025 season, coaching new program records in the 400m, 4x400 relay, and distance medley relay. His runners contributed greatly to the Orediggers' RMAC and NCAA success as
Jonah Fallon and
Tim Thompson won the RMAC titles at 400m and 800m, respectively, and the DMR finished on the NCAA podium in fifth place.Â
IN THE POLLS
The USTFCCCA announced its first outdoor ratings index release earlier this week and the Mines men opened at #20 with the women at #24. The ratings take into account performances on the national list; expect jumps next week with Mines' distance squad debuting this weekend.
