LAST-CHANCE SEASON STARTS AT COLORADO STATE
With the RMAC Championships in their rearview mirror, Colorado School of Mines track & field looks ahead to last-chance qualifying for the NCAA Division II Championships, starting this Saturday with the Doug Max Invitational at Colorado State. It is one of three last chance meets on the Orediggers' slate over the next two weeks as they try to get in final performances to punch a ticket to nationals in Pueblo at the end of May.
LIVE COVERAGE
The Doug Max Invitational will stream on the
Mountain West Network, and
live results are also available. Among events with Mines entrants, the hammer throw is set to begin at 10 a.m., shot put at 11 a.m. with discus to follow, pole vault at 11 a.m., and the men's 1,500m at 11:20 a.m.Â
WHAT TO WATCH
Mines is slated to have its throwers, vaulters, and 1,500m runners in action at the Doug Max Invitational as they aim to get into the top-22 of their events to qualify for nationals. In the pole vault, newly-minted RMAC champion
Dale Thompson - currently safely ranked 12th on the national list - hopes to improve her standing, while
Aidan Bennett,
Noah Kelly, and
Kai Miller - each just outside the qualifying bubble - look for a bar in the neighborhood of 5.03m to get into the NCAA field.Â
In the men's 1,500m,
Brock Drengenberg and
Alberto Campa enter the weekend ranked #19 and #21, respectively, on the national list, while
Andreas O'Malley is #36 with the current qualifying cut line at 3:45.41.
Mines' throwers have had a strong spring season with a chance to send multiple athletes to the NCAA Championships. For the women
Kitt Rupar is safely ranked #11 in the discus and #13 in the shot put, but looks to improve her #44 hammer throw ranking to join teammates
Jennifer Jarnagin (#4) and
Abbi Gillespie (#5) in that event. This weekend, Rupar is set for both the shot put and hammer while standing pat in the discus coming off her RMAC title, while RMAC gold and silver medalists Jarnagin and Gillespie are entered in the hammer.Â
For the men, the trio of
Holden Murphy,
Cade Whish, and
Franklin Rambo are entered at Colorado State. Murphy will contest all three throws as he is ranked #9 in the hammer, but is outside the bubble in the discus (#32) and shot put (#25); Rambo is also outside looking in on the shot put (#24), and he will also throw the discus this weekend. Whish has recorded personal bests in back-to-back competitions as he throws the shot and discus in Fort Collins.
RMAC CHAMPIONSHIPS REWIND
The Mines men and women finished a strong second place at the 2025 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships held last weekend at Stermole Track, with 11 gold medalists overall. The Oredigger men scored a massive 195 points - their second-most ever - while the Mines women scored their most points ever at 157.
Jeremiah Vaille did the double, winning both the 5,000m and 10,000m, while
Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge captured the women's 5K title.
Alex Shaw and
Emily LaMena swept the steeplechase golds, and
Everett Delate won his third consecutive 110m hurdle crown in a new meet record 13.87 seconds with
Allison Comer smashing her program record to win the women's 400m hurdles in 59.39. In the field,
Dale Thompson took first in the women's pole vault,
Kitt Rupar won the discus, and
Jennifer Jarnagin captured the hammer throw gold while
Avery Wright took home another heptathlon title.Â
