Captain of an incredible era of success for Mines Women's Soccer,
Emily Garnier '18 joins the
Harry D. Campbell Oredigger Hall of Fame in its Class of 2025.
A three-time all-American in her four years starting at center back for the Orediggers, Garnier anchored a stalwart Mines defense that helped capture three consecutive RMAC regular-season and tournament championship doubles and won the NCAA South Central regional titles in 2014 and 2016. Mines qualified for the NCAA Tournament four times during her career, advancing to the national semifinals for the first time in 2014 and the national quarterfinals in 2016.
Garnier graduated as one of the most-awarded players in Mines soccer history, earning three consecutive RMAC Defensive Player of the Year Awards and adding the 2016 RMAC Player of the Year honor as well; she earned a combined five all-America honors across three seasons and was the 2016 D2CCA Regional Player of the Year and Colorado Sportswoman of the Year for soccer.
A set-piece specialist on the offensive end of the field, Garnier led the nation with a Mines single-season-record 15 assists as a senior in 2017 and ended with 30 career assists, which ranks second all-time at Mines; her 54 career points are the most in program history by a defender and ranks seventh overall, and she added 12 career goals. As a commanding and steady presence at center back, she led some of the nation's best defenses during her time in Golden as Mines allowed only seven goals (0.29 GAA) in 2014, a program record.
A native of Littleton, Garnier earned her degree in computer science and went on to a successful professional career playing for Fortuna Hjørring in Denmark, Empoli and Napoli in Italy, Newcastle Jets in Australia, and the Chicago Stars in the NWSL. Now retired as a player, she also has a master of business administration from the University of Colorado and is a business analyst for Epilog Laser in Golden.
The Harry D. Campbell Oredigger Hall of Fame Class of 2025 will continue to be announced on minesathletics.com during the week of July 28, leading up to the ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 4 as part of Homecoming Weekend.
