Mines Ice Hockey opened their season with an exhibition game against the University of Denver on Saturday, September 13th. Mines started out slow but gradually gained their footing by the end of the first period. Senior
Nathan Cote opened the scoring in the second period, and was soon followed by
Ben Lombardi. With the game tied 2-2 at the end of the second, Mines looked to gain the lead headed into the third. Again
Nathan Cote Scored to bring the Orediggers up, but Denver tied it on the power play.
Nicholas Malaniuk brought Mines up again late in the third, but the lead was short as DU tied it with only minutes left in the game. Going into overtime, Mines was looking strong, but a bad bounce on the boards led to Denver coming out on top in a 5-4 OT loss for the Orediggers.
