Orediggers Power Past Division I CU Boulder in First Home Game, 52–7
The Colorado School of Mines women's rugby team made a statement in their home opener, defeating Division I opponent CU Boulder 52–7 in Golden. The Orediggers showcased both explosive offense and relentless defense, proving they're ready to contend on the national stage.
Mines wasted no time getting on the board with
Emma Acker scoring the first try. From there, the attack kept rolling.
Piper Lee had a dominant day, scoring three tries and adding ten tackles with zero misses. Veteran forwards
Kaylyn Courtney and
Mckenzie Williams each powered across the line for tries of their own, while
Ayana Mejorado added another score. First-year
Landry Riddle capped off the offensive effort with her first career try, a moment of celebration for both her and the team.
Momentum shifted firmly in Mines' favor after
Charlotte Siervogel broke free for a massive run, energizing the squad and the home crowd. CU managed their lone score in the first half, but the Orediggers' defensive wall held strong the rest of the way. In total, Mines racked up over 70 tackles as a team, with standout efforts from
Sam Gregerson, Jade Leveille, and Jaci Langford.
The honors went to
Maddy Snodgrass as Forward of the Match and
Piper Lee as Back of the Match. The game also marked the first appearance for
Kate Osborn and
Landry Riddle, both making an immediate impact.
The 52–7 victory not only secures bragging rights against a Division I opponent but also builds momentum as Mines turns their attention to a tough upcoming clash with Mesa.
