McLaughlin, Mines Tame Grizzlies

GOLDEN, Colo. – Oredigger middle blocker Jenna McLaughlin was the tip of the spear for the Colorado School of Mines volleyball team Friday night in a 3-0 victory against Adams State at Lockridge Arena.

McLaughlin's final line was dominant across three sets. She posted 18 kills, zero attack errors, a .667 hitting percentage, and six total blocks including two solo stuffs. Amanda Donais Dudley added to the highlights by surpassing 1,000 kills in her collegiate career thanks to six kills on .263 hitting on the right side. She added two aces, 11 digs and three blocks as well. Two aces each for Hailee Martinez and Jada Price strengthened the service game. In the back row, Olivia Murillo walked away touting 12 digs at 4.0 digs per set and Price churned out nine digs. Martinez closed her night boasting 29 assists along with one error-free kill, six digs, and one block.

The victory was the first for Mines (8-3, 1-2 RMAC) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. Adams State (4-9, 1-3 RMAC) was brought back to earth after sweeping New Mexico Highlands earlier this week. As a team, the Orediggers produced a .354 attack percentage while limiting the Grizzlies to a .097 on offense. Mines recorded eight total blocks and ASU had zero. Furthermore, the Orediggers outperformed the Grizzlies in service aces (6-2), points (54-35), kills (40-33), assists (35-28), and digs (49-47). Hadleigh Richardson was ASU's star, registering 12 kills to go past 200 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Oredigger trio of McLaughlin, Martinez, and Murillo were surgical in the opening set. McLaughlin pounded out eight error-free kills and four total blocks, Murillo ground out nine digs, and Martinez handed out nine assists with one ace – all in just one frame. Additionally, the first game saw Donais Dudley record the 1,000th kill of her career on the first of three while hitting .300. The final score of set one was 25-15. Game two brought five more kills off the hand of McLaughlin who hit .625 in that frame and added two more blocks. Martinez handed out 11 more assists and recorded one ace. Price gave her team four digs as well. A 25-11 margin put Mines on the verge of a sweep after hitting .500 as a team in the set.

Adams State kept the final frame closer. The final score was 25-20. However, McLaughlin proved inevitable. She closed her night, and the Orediggers' first home sweep of 2025 with five kills while hitting .833. Price and Francesca Nuzzo afforded the home team three digs apiece. Nine more assists off the hands of Martinez were the icing on the cake. In total, Friday's match featured a total of six ties and just three lead changes across three sets of action.
