SAN ANGELO, Texas – In a rematch of last fall's South Central Regional title game, the #4 Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team came out on top of #18 Angelo State once more, this time by way of a 1-0 victory to begin the 2025 season. Much to the chagrin of the Rambelles (0-1-0), it was none other than
Bella Campos with the game-winner in the second half to propel the Orediggers (1-0-0) to the opening night win.
A quick series of shots saw each team with a chance to score in the opening 12 minutes of play as
Afton Rasco and
Bella Campos each took aim at Melyna Martinez while Carly Martinez put
Allie Lundgren to the test as both keepers proved sure-handed in their first looks of the night.
Lexi Gonzales and Jaycee Garza each had a crack at Lundrgen as the opening period moved past the halfway point as very little else offensively materialized for either side as the first 45 minutes of the season concluded.
Coming out of the intermission, each side was assessed a yellow card in the first 10 minutes of play. Shots continued to come in favor of the Rambelles, though their first two looks of the half failed to amount to much as did a pair of looks by the Orediggers.
Mines finally broke through in the 62nd minute as Campos broke loose following a free kick as she put a shot past Martinez for what ended up being the go-ahead goal.
Angelo State had a crack at an equalizer shortly after the restart in the 65th minute as Gonzales again took aim at goal and was again turned away by Lundrgen. Both side made a flurry of substitutions down the stretch with ASU trying to find a spark on offense and the Orediggers trying to rotate fresh legs on defense while still seeking an insurance goal. An attempt from Abby James in the waning moments missed high and wide as Mines registered their fifth consecutive opening day win by a tally of 1-0.
