Double-Digit Win at Regis Makes Eight Straight for Mines

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines women's basketball team won its eighth consecutive game Thursday night thanks to 76-60 margin at Regis.

Once again, Sofia Baldessari led all players in the game with 24 points and nine rebounds. She also had two steals and two assists. Emma Sixta and Jade Leon combined to score 31 points with 17 and 14, respectively, while Sixta also dished out seven assists. Emily Thomas was the glue with her eight points, five assists, four steals, and two rebounds. Quincey Baum capped the individual highlights by blocking two shots. Kate Gallery was tops for the opposition, boasting 18 points and six rebounds while playing all 40 minutes.

Mines (12-8, 7-2 RMAC) extended its win streak to eight behind long-range shooting and rebounding. Regis (0-14, 0-10 RMAC) committed fewer turnovers than the Orediggers but only shot 37-percent from the floor and had just four made three-pointers. The rebounding margin was 35-26 in favor of the visitors. Mines converted 48 percent of its field goals and more than 52 percent of its three-pointers. The Orediggers were also 13-of-16 at the free-throw line. In comparison, the Rangers were 20-of-53 from the floor, 4-for-17 from behind the arc, and 16-of-20 at the charity stripe.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Long-range shooting was the theme of the night after three of the first four made field goals came from behind the arc. A Baldessari jumper and a Regis layup made the score 8-8 after three minutes of action. The three-point barrage quickly resumed with Baldessari making one and the Rangers answering to tie the score, 11-11. Neither team scored for almost two minutes of game action before the Orediggers closed the first quarter on a 6-0 run – all two-point buckets. After 10 minutes, Baldessari touted seven of Mines' 17 points and Leon was up to three rebounds. One tie and two lead changes came within the first 90 seconds of the second quarter before five straight points off the hand of Sixta gave the Orediggers the lead for good.

By halftime, Baldessari was up to nine points, Leon owned five rebounds, Sixta had handed out three assists, and Mines boasted a 34-24 lead. Leon came out of the break and poured in seven third-quarter points.  Baldessari's 11 points and four rebounds in the fourth quarter were the icing on the cake. When the clock hit zero, the Orediggers had overcome five ties and four lead changes while leading by as many as 18 points.
