Golden, Colo. (Jan. 24, 2026) – The Colorado School of Mines Men's Club Ice Hockey team came up just short Saturday night, dropping an 8–7 overtime decision to Northern Arizona University in a high-scoring, back-and-forth battle at Apex Ice Arena.

Mines burst out of the gates in the opening period with one of its strongest offensive frames of the season. Ben Lombardi led the charge with a first-period hat trick, scoring three times to spark the Orediggers' attack. Goals from Scott MacDonald and Matthew Mansfield followed, giving Mines a commanding 5–2 lead after 20 minutes of play.

The momentum carried into the second period as Mines continued to apply pressure. Kaden Dorwart netted his first goal of the season, marking a milestone moment for the freshman, while Ripken Renner added another tally to extend the Orediggers' lead to 7–5 heading into the final period.

Northern Arizona responded in the third, tightening defensively and capitalizing on opportunities to erase the deficit. Mines was held scoreless over the final 20 minutes, and the Lumberjacks forced overtime with a late equalizer.

The extra frame proved to be brief, as Northern Arizona found the game-winner to seal the 8–7 result, handing Mines a tough loss despite a night filled with offensive firepower.

Despite the outcome, the Orediggers showcased depth and scoring balance throughout the lineup, highlighted by Lombardi's three-goal performance and strong contributions from MacDonald, Mansfield, Dorwart, and Renner.

Mines will look to regroup quickly as it continues conference play and prepares for its next stretch of games.
