IN THE RANKINGS
The USTFCCCA released their first indoor team rankings of the season on Tuesday with the Mines women debuting at #6 and the men at #7. It ties the highest-ever indoor ranking for the women; combined, the two teams hold 19 NCAA provisional performances including a dozen top-10 national marks.Â
LAST TIME OUT
Mines had a strong Saturday at meets in Boulder and Colorado Springs, led by the men's 4x400 relay of
Liam Currie,
Logan Meade,
Tim Thompson, and
Jonah Fallon, who reset their RMAC and Mines records with a 3:12.33 time, which checks in #6 nationally. Thompson also had a huge 800m performance in 1:49.47, solidifying his top-3 status nationally with the fastest at-elevation 800m in program history and his raw personal best.
Imani Fernandez-Gorbea also ran an NCAA-provisional and personal-best 2:12.62 in the 800m. At UCCS,
Violet Williams ran the Mines all-time #2 200m time of 25.07 seconds, while
Franklin Rambo and
Kellar Cimini won the shot put and pole vault events, respectively, while
Keaton Reiman's huge PR in the weight throw (16.28m) put him into the Mines all-time top-10 in the event.
OREDIGGERS WELL-REPRESENTED ON NATIONAL PERFORMANCE LIST
As the indoor season heats up, Mines is already well-represented on the national performance list in a number of events. The women's 5,000m is Mines' strongest showing so far this year with five athletes in the national top 11 led by
Emily LaMena (#2) and
Grace Strongman (#3) along with
Margaux Basart (#7),
Sierra Wall (#10), and
Lexi Herr (#11). The men have three in the top 13 with
Paul Knight (#6),
Dawson Gunn (#10) and
Ethan Grolnic (#13). Mines middle distance is also strong with
Tim Thompson sitting #3 in the 800m,
Brock Drengenberg #9 in the mile, and
Imani Fernandez-Gorbea #12 in the 800. The men's 4x400 is #6, as well. Mines owns three top-10 field marks so far as
Violet Williams is #2 in the women's long jump with
Alejandro Philippart #8 on the men's side, and
Jennifer Jarnagin is #9 in the women's weight throw.Â
RAMSEY-RUTLEDGE HONORED BY SPORTSWOMEN OF COLORADO
Distance runner
Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge was honored as the state's Pacesetter of the Year by the Sportswomen of the Colorado on Jan. 23, recognizing her incredible 2025 season. Ramsey-Rutledge was the 2025 NCAA Division II national champion in the indoor 5,000m, one of three all-America finishes on the track last year. Mines' first women's indoor national champion on the track, Ramsey-Rutledge set the D-II all-meets 5K record of 15:40.98 during the 2025 season on her way to earning RMAC Co-Track Athlete of the Year honors and the national title. Outdoors, she was the national silver medalist in the 10,000m and finished fifth in the 5,000m at the NCAA Championships after capturing the RMAC title on her home track in the 5K.
THE CHAMPS ARE HERE
It's been a tremendous last few years for the Mines women's track & field and cross country programs, and that reached a new level in October when the Orediggers won the RMAC women's cross country championship for the first time. With the title, Colorado School of Mines became the first institution in the RMAC to win conference championships in every sport it sponsors. In addition to the XC win, this decade, the women have won RMAC indoor track & field titles in 2023, 2024, and 2025, and won their first-ever outdoor crown in 2024 as well.Â
RECORD SETTERS
Mines has a strong group of active program recordholders, and continues to add to that group as the season develops. As mentioned, the men's 4x400 relay (
Liam Currie,
Logan Meade,
Tim Thompson, and
Jonah Fallon) reset their program and RMAC record last week, and Mines added new records in December by
Violet Williams in the long jump and
Jathan Busby in the 60m dash. Fallon (400m) and
Franklin Rambo (shot put) set new individual marks last year, while three of four legs of the distance medley relay (
Brock Drengenberg, Fallon, and Thompson) return from last year's record-setting group. The women welcome back
Margaux Basart (3,000m) and
Avery Wright (60m hurdles and pentathlon) as individual recordholders, while
Grace Galvin is also a member of Mines' record-holding 4x400 and distance medley relays, joined by
Imani Fernandez-Gorbea on the DMR.
LOOKING AHEAD
Mines splits its squad again next weekend to compete in the Colorado Classic in Boulder and the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invite in Boston.
