Final Results
GOLDEN, Colo. - Strong showings in the multis and sprints led Colorado School of Mines at its home Winter Classic at Steinhauer Fieldhouse, while distance runners wrapped up the Terrier Classic at Boston University on Saturday as well.
In Golden,
Nick Stade and
Lisa Sutherland made it a Mines sweep of the multis,
Jathan Busby and
Violet Williams shined in the sprints, and Oredigger throwers notched multiple personal bests to finish out the final home meet of the 2026 indoor season.
Stade won the heptathlon in a down-to-the-wire finish, jumping from third to first on the final event to win by six points with a 4,960-point score. Stade ran 8.85 in the 60m hurdles to start the second day of the multi, then vaulted 4.30m and ran 3:00.67 in the 1,000m needing to make up an 11-point gap to first.
Vaughn Hafner closed fifth with 4,282 points, going 9.35 seconds in the hurdles, 3.40m in the pole vault, and 3:33.13 in the kilometer.
Sutherland took first in the pentathlon by a comfortable margin, scoring 3,405 points across the five events. Sutherland ran a personal-best 8.83 seconds in the 60m hurdles - tying her for second all-time in the event at Mines - then cleared 1.47m in the high jump before recording another collegiate best of 11.20m in the shot put. She wrapped up with a 5.33m long jump and a 2:36.65 800m time.
Jathan Busby won the 60m dash in a large field, timing 6.83 seconds in qualifying before shaving it down to 6.80 seconds in a photo-finish final. Busby now owns the four fastest runs in program history, recording the #2 and #3 performances on Saturday.
Tegan Daughters clocked 7.09 for 10th place, with
Ollie Sehr's 7.11 good for 12th.
Violet Williams showed off her speed to move to #2 on the Mines women's 60m list, running 7.63 in qualifying and 7.61 seconds in the final to take second. Williams' time is the fastest sprint by an Oredigger woman since 2011.
The weight throw started the morning in the field and
Jennifer Jarnagin led the way with a fourth-place 18.23m performance - the top D-II thrower in the field - while
Audrey Ott launched a PR of 15.40m for eighth.
Violet Mazenko marked 11.52m and
Harper Tuffly 11.11m in their event debuts. The men were led by
Hayden Swim and his 15.52m career-best, good for fifth place, with
Keaton Reiman placing eighth at 15.16m.
Landon Mays recorded a 13.90m best and
Chandler Smoak 13.29m in their official Mines debuts.
In the women's triple jump,
Kelle Vernon took fourth with a best attempt of 10.90m, while in the men's competition,
Zander Besch marked a best of 13.39m in the triple jump for sixth place.
Chloe Hawkins took fourth in the high jump clearing a collegiate-best 1.55m height.
In Boston at the Terrier Classic,
Daniel Appleford broke under 14 minutes in the 5,000m, timing a personal-best 13:58.49 ahead of teammate
Ethan Grolnic, who ran 14:02.48 in an earlier heat. Appleford's time - #10 on the Mines all-time performance list - is an NCAA-provisional performance.
Mines will compete in Boulder at the Colorado Classic next weekend.
