COLORADO SPRINGS – Following another dominant performance on both side of the ball in the first action of 2026, Colorado School of Mines men's basketball junior Alex Romack has been named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week presented by Genesee Nutrition.

It is the second time in Romack's career he has earned DPOTW honors, with his last coming on December 18, 2023 in his freshman season. He's the first Oredigger to earn a weekly award from the conference since Majok Deng was named Offensive Player of the Week on February 26, 2024.

The holiday break did little to slow down the roll the junior out of Westfield, Indiana has been on this season as he turned in his eighth double-double of the season in a 92-84 win over Northern New Mexico. In 28 minutes of action, Romack scored 17 points with 14 rebounds including eight on the offensive glass as part of 56 total rebounds and 23 offensive by the Orediggers in the game. He shot 7-11 from the floor and went 3-5 from the stripe and was clutch late defensively as well, ending the day with two blocked shots and a steal in the winning effort.

For the season, Romack is second in the RMAC in total rebounding at 8.7 per game and leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game by a wide margin at 4.1.  His 18 blocked shots are tied for second while his 20 steals are tied for fourth overall and tied for the league lead by primary post players.
