LAWRENCE, Kan. – Sunday saw the women of Mines cross country race to a team victory at the D2 Pre-Nationals hosted by Northwest Missouri State on the campus of the University of Kansas at Rim Rock Farm.

The Oredigger victory was narrow as they edged Western Colorado by just one point, 84-85. Mines entered the race ranked #3 in the nation and the Mountaineers were #5 nationally. Emily LaMena anchored the team victory by finishing the 6K race third individually in 29:59.0 – less than two seconds away from silver. Other ranked teams in the field included #7 UCCS, #9 Missouri Southern, #10 Pittsburg State, #15 Colorado Mesa, and #23 Nebraska-Kearney. There were a total of 18 teams that scored and 194 runners that started the race. Rim Rock Farm will also be the course where the 2026 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships are competed.

After another group of Orediggers won the FHSU Tiger Open just one day before, Sunday's race featured LaMena running with the lead pack – nearly 30 seconds ahead of her closest teammate. The move paid off as LaMena claimed bronze and was less than two seconds behind the second-place runner. Sierra Wall crossed the finish line as Mines' second scorer, taking 10th in 21:26.9. The next Oredigger finisher was Josie Mejia in 19th after running 21:48.4. Gabi Boeckman's 25th-place performance in 22:04.2 gave Mines four scorers in the top 25. Callen Nash was right behind Boeckman, pacing out at 22:05.6 which was good enough for 27th. Katie Price (37th) and Angela Friedman (48th) rounded out the Orediggers' top seven. Olivia Olson, Olivia Tallent, and Madison Miles also competed for Mines with Olson and Miles making their college cross country debuts.

The next action for Mines cross country will be the Orediggers' regular-season finale on Saturday, Oct. 24, at the UCCS XC Open in Colorado Springs.
