COLORADO SPRINGS – Following another standout performance to open up a four-match road trip for the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team, senior striker
Bella Campos been named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
The honor is the third of the season for Campos and fifth time she's taken home Player of the Week laurels in her career.
Campos was the driving force on offense for the Orediggers last weekend as they opened their two-week stint on the road with trips to UCCS and Western Colorado. Last Friday against the Mountain Lions after the Orediggers ceded an early goal, Campos equalized the match in the waning moments of the first half as she teamed up with
Finley Ewald for the goal that went on to earn Mines a 1-1 draw. Sunday at Western Colorado after the Orediggers fell behind early again, Campos erupted for three goals against the Mountaineers for her first hat trick of the season. She tied the match in the 26th minute before giving Mines the lead in the 42nd minute and icing the result with another score in the 68th minute. She worked with three different teammates to produce the goals, as
Bella Torres,
Gaby Guerrero and
Allyson Townsend were all credited with assists on the three goals.
Following her four-goal, eight-point weekend Campos reclaimed the top spot in the RMAC with 15 goals on the season. On the year, she is second in Division II in scoring and tied for third across all levels of the NCAA in goals scored. Her hat trick Sunday was the fourth of Campos' career, as she has recorded one such performance in each of her four seasons in a Mines uniform. She's the fourth RMAC player to accomplish the feat this season, joining Colorado Mesa's Ellie Duncan and Regis' duo of Paula Igual and Isabella Rodriguez. It was the 23rd hat trick by an Oredigger in program history. Campos also became the second player in program history to surpass 150 points in a career, joining the program's all-time leading scorer Kayla Mitchell. She also passed former teammate Reese McDermott over the weekend in total shots with 143.
Mines (8-2-3, 4-1-2) is back on the road this weekend with trips to Colorado Mesa Friday and Westminster Sunday.
