Mines Club Baseball returns to action this weekend as the Orediggers travel to Rapid City, South Dakota, for a three-game road series against South Dakota Mines on Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18.
The weekend begins with a doubleheader Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., before the two teams return to the diamond for the series finale Sunday at 11 a.m. Mines enters the matchup riding a two-game winning streak after sweeping Colorado State University Pueblo on Oct. 4 at Long Lake Regional Park in Arvada.
The Orediggers delivered one of their strongest performances of the fall against CSU Pueblo, earning a 7-3 victory in the opener before completing the sweep with a 12-7 win in game two. The pair of victories improved Mines' record to 3-3-1 and showcased the team's growing offensive consistency and strong pitching depth.
Matt Lang led the offense in the opening game, recording two hits, three RBIs, three runs and a stolen base. Zander Belland added two hits, two runs and three stolen bases, while Charles Burrell contributed two hits and a run.
Mines also received outstanding pitching performances from Roman Williams and Alex Guevara. Williams worked four innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out five. Guevara followed with three innings of relief, surrendering only one earned run and striking out six. Together, the duo combined for 11 strikeouts in the 7-3 victory.
The Orediggers continued their offensive success in the second game, scoring 12 runs behind strong performances from Fernando Acosta and Nick Serbio. Acosta finished with two hits, three runs, two RBIs and two stolen bases, while Serbio added two hits, a run and two RBIs.
On the mound, Sean Lann threw four innings without allowing an earned run, striking out seven while surrendering just three hits. Tyler Mauldin added a scoreless inning of relief, allowing no hits and recording two strikeouts.
Mines has now scored 10 or more runs in four of its seven games this fall, demonstrating its ability to generate offense throughout the lineup. After dropping two of three games against CU Boulder in late September, the Orediggers responded with their first series sweep of the season and will look to carry that momentum into Rapid City.
With three games scheduled against South Dakota Mines, the weekend presents another opportunity for the Orediggers to build on their recent success and continue gaining momentum as the fall season progresses.
