Valorant Sweeps Northern Arizona to Remain Unbeaten
Mines Valorant Varsity continued its strong start to NECC regular-season competition Monday, Oct. 5, sweeping Northern Arizona University 2-0.
The Orediggers opened on Northern Arizona's map selection of Summit, a map Mines had not previously played in competition. Despite the unfamiliar territory, Mines battled to a 6-6 halftime tie behind a strong performance from sophomore Maximus Ogle, who helped turn the momentum with his use of the Odin.
Mines took control on attack, winning the first five rounds of the second half behind several opening eliminations from freshman Amarmurun Munkhbat. Northern Arizona managed two more rounds before the Orediggers closed out the opening map.
The series moved to Lotus, where Northern Arizona opened with a pistol-round victory and built an early 3-1 lead. Mines responded behind strong communication and strategic adjustments from sophomore Noah Fischbeck and junior Jackson Bonneau, turning the deficit into an 8-4 halftime advantage.
Northern Arizona again responded after the break, winning the opening pistol round before Mines faced a difficult 3-v-4 retake situation. Fischbeck delivered three eliminations to secure the round and restore momentum for the Orediggers.
With the score eventually tied 10-10, Bonneau came through with a four-elimination round to help Mines close out the map and complete the 2-0 sweep.
The victory marked Mines' second consecutive regular-season sweep following its win over Cal State San Bernardino the previous week.
Rocket League Takes Down Sam Houston in Dominant Rematch
Mines Rocket League Varsity delivered another strong performance Wednesday, Oct. 7, defeating Sam Houston State JV 4-1 in a best-of-seven series.

Despite some early difficulties, the Orediggers found their rhythm and took control of the match, earning a convincing 7-3 victory to secure the 2-1 series win.
The comeback marked another strong showing for Mines Rainbow Six, which entered the week following a 2-0 sweep of Kansas State.
