Mines Men's Club Soccer finished a busy road weekend with a 2-2 tie against CSU Gold on Saturday before earning an 8-1 win over UCCS on Sunday.
The Orediggers traveled to Fort Collins Saturday afternoon to face CSU Gold. Despite challenging field conditions that made play back and forth, Mines struck first with an early goal from Caleb Burgess. CSU equalized off a corner kick before halftime, then added another goal early in the second half to take a 2-1 lead. Mines continued to push for an equalizer, with Toby Johnson finding the back of the net in the final minutes to secure a 2-2 draw.
Mines returned to action Sunday in Colorado Springs against UCCS, getting off to a strong start with first-half goals from James Hutson and Simon Carricaburu. UCCS cut into the lead early in the second half, but the Orediggers quickly regained control and added six more goals to pull away.
Mario Castro and Luca Macouzet each scored twice, while Hutson added his second goal of the game and Burgess found the net to round out the scoring in an 8-1 Mines victory.
The Orediggers finished the weekend with four points across the two contests and remain one point behind CU Gold with a game in hand as the season continues.
