Mines Baseball Looks to Extend Winning Streak Against MSU Denver

10/26/2026 11:55:00 AM

Mines Club Baseball returns to action this weekend as the Orediggers travel to Denver for a pair of evening contests against Metropolitan State University of Denver on Sunday, Nov. 1, and Monday, Nov. 2. Both games are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Mines enters the series riding a five-game winning streak after sweeping South Dakota Mines in Rapid City on Oct. 17-18. The Orediggers have found their rhythm on both sides of the ball, combining explosive offensive performances with strong pitching to improve to 6-3-1 on the fall season.

The Orediggers dominated their most recent series against South Dakota Mines, earning victories of 12-1, 14-1 and 14-1. Mines outscored the Hardrockers 40-3 across the three games, with all three contests ending after five innings.

Several Orediggers delivered standout performances during the sweep, highlighted by sophomore Sean Lann and junior Fernando Acosta, who earned Rocky Mountain East Pitcher and Player of the Week honors, respectively.

Lann turned in one of the strongest pitching performances of the fall in the series opener, throwing a complete five-inning game while allowing just two hits and one earned run. The Denver native struck out 14 batters in the 12-1 victory, continuing his strong stretch on the mound after recording seven strikeouts in four scoreless innings against CSU Pueblo earlier in October.

Acosta also played a key role in the sweep, collecting five hits, three RBIs and three runs across the final two games. The Fort Worth, Texas, native recorded two hits and an RBI in Saturday's second game before adding three hits, two RBIs and two runs in Sunday's finale.

Mines received additional offensive contributions throughout the weekend. Carter Rohrig collected two hits and three RBIs in the series opener, while Matt Lang added two hits and two runs. Brady White led the offense in Saturday's second game with three hits and two runs, and Nick Serbio capped off the weekend with three hits and five RBIs in Sunday's victory.

The Oredigger pitching staff has also been instrumental in the team's recent success. Along with Lann's dominant outing, Serbio contributed two scoreless innings in Saturday's second game, while Eli Benschoter struck out five batters across two innings without allowing an earned run in Sunday's finale.

Mines has now scored 59 runs over its five-game winning streak, reaching double figures in each contest. The Orediggers will look to maintain that offensive production while continuing to build on the pitching performances that have fueled their recent success.

With the fall season entering its final stretch, the upcoming series against MSU Denver provides another opportunity for Mines to extend its winning streak and finish the campaign on a high note.
