Valorant JV Falls to Top-Seeded Loyola Marymount
Mines Valorant JV faced one of its toughest opponents of the season Monday, Oct. 19, falling 2-0 to the top-seeded Loyola Marymount University Lions.
The Orediggers entered the matchup looking to build on their first NECC regular-season victory, a 2-1 comeback win over Washington State the previous week.
Mines opened the series on Haven, where Loyola Marymount established control early. Despite the Orediggers' efforts to keep pace, the Lions maintained their advantage throughout the map and secured a 13-5 victory.
The series then moved to Lotus, Mines' map selection and one of the team's strongest maps in practice.
The Orediggers delivered a much more competitive performance in the second map, challenging the top-seeded Lions and keeping the contest close.
Despite facing an opponent with a higher-ranked roster, Mines remained competitive throughout the map, forcing Loyola Marymount to battle for the victory.
The Lions ultimately secured a narrow 13-10 win to complete the 2-0 series sweep.
The result marked Mines' second consecutive 13-10 defeat on Lotus, following a loss by the same score against Washington State the previous week.
Although the Orediggers were unable to secure the victory, their improved performance in the second map provided encouragement against one of the division's strongest teams.
The loss moved Valorant JV to 1-3 in NECC regular-season competition.
With the postseason approaching, Mines faces an increasingly important stretch of matches. The team is targeting a final record of 3-4 or 4-3 to improve its playoff chances, making its remaining contests critical.
The Orediggers' next scheduled match has been postponed, providing additional time to focus on academics, practice and preparation before returning to competition.
