GOLDEN, Colo. — Mines Men's Rugby returns to IM North on Saturday, Oct. 31, to host Colorado Mesa in its final home league match of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., with the Orediggers looking to close out their home league schedule with a strong performance.
Mines enters the matchup looking to respond after a 37–10 road loss to Weber State, the conference leaders, in Ogden last weekend. Despite the result, the Orediggers competed hard against a strong opponent, showing promising play in the scrum and creating opportunities on both sides of the ball.
Against Weber State, Will Skaar opened the scoring for Mines with a penalty kick, while Oliver Sanders added a second-half try, converted by Bryce Roder. The forwards held their own in the scrum, and the backs moved the ball effectively and worked to win possession. The match also highlighted areas for improvement, particularly lineout execution and consistency across the full 80 minutes.
Saturday's contest offers Mines an important opportunity to put those lessons into practice. With Colorado Mesa coming to Golden for the final home league match, the Orediggers will look to establish their physicality early, improve their execution at set pieces and turn attacking opportunities into points.
The team will also look to make the most of playing at home as the league campaign continues. Strong forward play, disciplined defense and better control of possession will be key as Mines aims to finish its home league schedule on a positive note.
After a season of challenging matchups and valuable learning experiences, the Orediggers have another opportunity to show their progress and compete for an important result. The focus this week will be on sharpening the details, building cohesion and bringing consistent energy from the opening whistle.
Kickoff against Colorado Mesa is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at IM North on the Mines campus.
