GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines men's soccer team closed out their 2026 season Wednesday night with a 5-1 result against #15 Regis.
Avi Levin scored the lone goal of the night for the Orediggers (0-15-3, 0-9-1), while the Rangers (11-3-3, 8-1-1) scored five times on 34 shots in the match.
After honoring
Andrew DeBerardinis in Senior Night festivities before the match, Mines flexed some defensive muscle through much of the first half against a relentless attack by the Rangers.
Kiernan DiBella was back in goal Wednesday night, and made several early saves before Regis scored twice in the waning moments of the first half to go in front. A penalty kick in the 42nd minute by Michael Ajagbe was followed by a goal in the 45th minute by Jacobo Betancourt-Tovar from Johan Murillo and Kaden Riedel to make it 2-0 Rangers.
RU made it a 3-0 game less than 10 minutes into the second half as Joakim Gunnar took advantage of a favorable bounce off a header by a Mines defender, as he had a free run at goal for the score to extend the lead. A furious sequence in the 59th and 60th minutes saw Mines get on the board thanks to
Avi Levin. A pair of shots by
Murray Peart in near-succession were both saved by Zach Jennings, but the second shot deflected back into play at the feet of Levin, as he took advantage of the wide-open net to make it 3-1.
A physical match that saw no shortage of fouls and yellow cards reached a breaking points in the 69th minute. After being assessed a caution eight minutes earlier,
Kaoru Kato was sent off for a handball leaving Mines to play with 10 men for a second time this season. Shortly after Kato's ejection, Regis made it 4-1 on a second penalty kick, this time from Betancourt-Tover in the 73rd minute.
Pol Garcia Oliveras had a chance against Jennings shortly after the restart, but no luck finding the net. Regis concluded the scoring the 81st minute, as Ajagbe headed home a free kick from Liam Corr following a fifth Mines yellow card as they closed out the 5-1 result.
