Rouse, Bowermaster Lead Orediggers Past ThunderWolves

GOLDEN, Colo. – The duo of Natalie Rouse and Jordan Bowermaster was an effective one Wednesday evening for the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team as the pair helped fuel a 5-1 win over CSU Pueblo in the regular season finale. The Orediggers (12-3-3, 8-2-2) raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first half thanks to Rouse and Bowermaster while the defense did their part and held the ThunderWolves (5-10-3, 3-7-2) to just six shots on the evening to end the regular season on a four-match winning streak.

CSU Pueblo, needing a win to remain in contention for the postseason, played strong defensive soccer the opening half hour as they stymied the Orediggers and kept the hottest player in the country Bella Campos to just one shot in the period. While the approach by the visitors to limit Campos paid early dividends, the Orediggers adjusted on the fly as the half went on and scored three times in the final 13 minutes of the period to lead heading to halftime. Natalie Rouse scored twice in the 32nd and 42nd minutes on nearly identical plays, playing home a pair of headers on the near post off two Jordan Bowermaster corner kicks to make it 2-0. Bella Torres made it 3-0 with 59 seconds left in the half after Caelan DeBolt won a ball inside the penalty area off a throw in as Mines held a commanding advantage after 45 minutes.

Having found some gaps in the CSU Pueblo game plan, the Oredigger continued to press home their attack in the second half as they looked to add onto their lead. While chances continued to stack up as the second half wore on, it was The Pack that scored next as Maya Bethelmie headed home a goal with a one-hop over Keira Garcia off a corner kick from Ruthie Landwehr that made it a 3-1 game. Having lost the shutout, Mines went back on offense and added two goals in the span of 86 seconds in the 83rd and 84th minutes. After checking out for a brief respite, Campos checked back in after the CSU Pueblo goal and in shades of her freshman year, scored less than three minutes later. DeBolt played a pass out of the far corner in the attacking third to Campos, who raced across the top of the 18 before unleashing a howitzer into the upper 90 on the near post to make it 4-1. Seconds after the restart, Mines was back on the attack to make it a 5-1 game. A series of volleys back and forth following a goal kick eventually ended with Sam Forde playing a ball back up the seam to Campos. Campos passed off to Kate Hendrickson who played it right back as the senior striker drew the attention of three defenders at the top of the penalty area before playing it back to a wide-open Hendrickson for a two-touch finish on the back post to put a bow on action in the regular season.
