Mines Club Esports continued its opening week of NECC regular-season competition with Valorant JV, Rocket League JV and League of Legends Challenger in action, while Rocket League Varsity capped the week with three series at CRL Open Tournament 3.

The week provided the Orediggers with more early-season experience as Mines' JV squads continued building chemistry and Rocket League Varsity picked up a tournament sweep.

Valorant JV Opens Regular Season

Valorant JV began its regular season Monday against Cal State San Marcos Cougars Blue, falling 2-0.

The Cougars selected Ascent for the opening map and built a 9-3 advantage by halftime. Mines responded after the break with a well-executed 2-v-5 conversion following the pistol round, but Cal State San Marcos maintained control and took the map 13-5.

Mines selected Lotus for Map 2 and generated some early momentum before the Cougars responded. Cal State San Marcos entered halftime ahead 8-4 and carried that advantage through the second half for a 13-4 victory.

The result moved Valorant JV to 0-1 to begin NECC regular-season competition as the Orediggers look to build on lessons from their opening match.

Rocket League JV Battles Marshalltown

Rocket League JV opened NECC regular-season competition Wednesday against Marshalltown Community College, with the Tigers taking the best-of-seven series 4-1.

Freshmen Vinicious Mutuano and Adam Naamani joined junior Ty Keiser for the opening game. Marshalltown struck first with a 3-0 victory.

Junior John Bradley entered the lineup alongside Mutuano and Keiser for Game 5. Mines' defense kept the deciding game close, but Marshalltown found the lone goal to secure a 1-0 win and the 4-1 series victory.

Despite the final series score, three of Mines' four losses were decided by a single goal, while the Orediggers' 4-1 victory in Game 2 demonstrated their ability to control a game when everything came together.

League Challenger Gains Experience Against East Central

League of Legends Challenger continued its young season against East Central University in a best-of-three series.

East Central controlled the opener, taking Game 1 by a 29-4 score in 21:11.

Mines remained even for a longer stretch during Game 2 before East Central eventually established control and closed the game 37-6 in 25:09 to secure the series.

The Orediggers also dealt with Discord and other technical issues during the two games. With the roster still early in its time playing together, Mines will look to continue improving its coordination as the NECC schedule progresses.

Rocket League Varsity Takes on CRL Open Tournament 3

Rocket League Varsity capped the week Saturday at CRL Open Tournament 3, where Trevor Proskovec, Mark Mainville and Ronin McMahon represented Mines throughout all three series.

The Orediggers finished 1-2 in series and 3-4 across individual games, highlighted by a sweep of Miami University Club Honor and several standout passing plays.
