GOLDEN, Colo. — Mines Women's Rugby split a home doubleheader over the weekend, opening Saturday with a dominant 92-7 victory over Colorado College before the Mines Blue developmental side fell 85-17 to the University of Denver on Sunday.
Orediggers Roll Past Colorado College
Mines' Silver side put together one of its most complete performances of the season Saturday, racing past Colorado College 92-7.
The Orediggers played with pace from the opening whistle, moving the ball effectively across the field and consistently supporting one another to keep possession and attacks alive.
Mines also used the match as an opportunity to experiment with new plays and combinations, executing successfully while maintaining strong structure and communication throughout the contest.
Contributions came from across the lineup as the Orediggers continued to apply pressure and play at a high tempo. Colorado College battled throughout and found the try zone, but Mines responded well and maintained control through the final whistle.
The victory marked another strong offensive performance for Mines, which opened the season with a 62-7 win over Colorado College before the two sides met again Saturday.
Blue Gains Valuable Experience Against Denver
On Sunday, Mines' Blue side took the field against the University of Denver in a developmental matchup designed to give players valuable game experience.
The teams played five 10-minute quarters, with Denver coming away with an 85-17 victory.
Despite the result, the match provided meaningful minutes for players continuing to develop in new roles. Mines worked on positioning, communication and maintaining structure against a strong Denver side, with several players showing promising moments throughout the five quarters.
The Blue side remained engaged and competitive through the final whistle, making the most of an opportunity to gain experience and build depth throughout the program.
The weekend ultimately provided Mines with two very different tests — a dominant performance from the Silver side and a valuable developmental opportunity for the Blue side — as the Orediggers continue to build throughout the season.
