GOLDEN, Colo. — Mines Men's Rugby closed out its regular season in impressive fashion Saturday, defeating Colorado Mesa 43–14 at IM North. After a competitive first half, the Orediggers found another gear after the break, delivering a dominant second-half performance to finish the season on a high note.

The first half began as a defensive battle, with neither team finding the try zone during the opening 18 minutes. Nathaniel Oehler eventually broke the deadlock with a try off an eight-man pick and pick-and-go. Bryce Roder added the conversion to give Mines the early lead.

Mesa answered quickly with a converted breakaway try, but the Orediggers responded when Max Zaharas stole possession and helped set up a breakaway score for Ducky Pavlides. Roder converted to restore the Mines advantage.

Mesa again found space through the defensive line, scoring another converted try to bring the match level at 14. Mines responded with a tap-and-go attack after a Mesa no-release penalty, allowing Oliver Sanders to cross for a try. Roder added the conversion to give the Orediggers a 21–14 lead.

Despite a first half filled with penalties and mistakes, the Orediggers maintained their composure heading into the break.

Mines came out with renewed energy in the second half, taking control through its forward pack and sustained possession. After a series of pick-and-goes, Kip Mapson powered over from five meters out for a hard-earned try.

The Orediggers continued to apply pressure, earning a penalty near the 15-meter mark that Roder converted to add three more points. Mapson then crossed for his second try of the afternoon, finishing a strong lineout maul as Mines continued to capitalize on its set-piece execution. Roder again added the conversion.

Mines added another score through a penalty try awarded to Nils Jerger. The Orediggers had driven a clean lineout and maul toward the try line before Mesa entered from the side and collapsed the maul, resulting in the penalty try. The teams traded possession through the closing stages, but Mines maintained control to secure the 43–14 victory.

The second-half performance showcased the Orediggers' ability to settle into their game and turn strong forward play into points. After a first half marked by penalties and mistakes, Mines responded with improved execution, possession and physicality to pull away.

Kip Mapson earned Man of the Match honors, while Dempsey Brinkman was named Second Man of the Match. Bryce Roder and Oliver Sanders shared Third Man of the Match recognition.

The victory provided a fitting finish to the regular season and an opportunity to recognize the contributions of the team's seniors. Mines will take the lessons from the season forward, building on the growth, resilience and team chemistry developed throughout the campaign.

Congratulations to the Orediggers and all of the seniors on a memorable season.

On to the next.
