Mines Club Ice Hockey Faces Tough Weekend Against Air Force

11/2/2026 11:19:00 AM

Mines Club Ice Hockey faced a difficult challenge over the weekend, taking on the No. 1-ranked team in the country, Air Force, in a two-game series on Oct. 30 and 31. The Orediggers struggled to find their offensive rhythm against Air Force, falling 9-0 on Friday at Apex Ice Arena before Saturday's matchup 10-0 at the Air Force Academy.

Air Force set the tone early in Friday night's game, scoring six goals in the opening period to take control of the matchup. Mines looked to settle in and limit Air Force's opportunities as the game continued, but Air Force added another goal in the second period and two more in the third to secure a 9-0 victory. The Orediggers were unable to get on the scoreboard against Air Force's defense.

Looking to respond in Saturday's rematch, Mines returned to the ice with another tough test ahead. Air Force again established an early lead, scoring four goals in the first period. Air Force continued to apply pressure in the second, adding four more goals before finishing with two in the final period. Despite Mines' efforts, the Orediggers were unable to generate enough offense to break through, resulting in a 10-0 loss.

Mines will look to regroup following the weekend and carry those lessons into its upcoming games as the season continues.
