LAST OF THE REGULAR SEASON
It's the last weekend of the 2026 regular season for Mines volleyball, and the Orediggers will look to close on a high note as they put their 14-match winning streak on the line at home against Chadron State and Regis. Friday features a 6 p.m. start against CSC and its Parent Night for Mines. Saturday brings Regis across town for a 5 p.m. match with Senior Night festivities to follow the contest. The Orediggers need just one win to clinch a home match in the first round of the RMAC Tournament. However, two wins would break another program record for Mines.

CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT OUTLOOK
Mines' wins last weekend officially clinched their berth in the 2026 RMAC Volleyball Tournament. They're now 21-3 (10-2 RMAC) and tied for second with Colorado Mesa in the conference standings. As referenced above, one win this weekend would assure Mines of a top-four seed and a home match in the first round of the league tournament. While not official, MSU Denver is all but assured of the #1 seed based on tiebreakers and the Roadrunners' schedule this weekend. Colorado Christian, South Dakota, Mines, and UCCS have also locked in a spot in the RMAC bracket. That leaves two spots with three teams competing to fill them including Adams State, Fort Lewis, and CSU Pueblo. As a reminder, the RMAC tournament is an eight-team, single-elimination event. The first round, or quarterfinal, is played Tuesday, Nov. 10, with the top four seeds hosting on their respective campuses. The highest remaining seed after Tuesday's matches hosts the semifinal and final on Friday, Nov. 13, and Saturday, Nov. 14.

NATIONAL RANKINGS
Mines improved to #20 in the latest AVCA-Taraflex Division II Poll put together by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association. The Orediggers' jumped two spots from #22, making it three straight weeks of improvement in the national polls. Mines is still the only RMAC team in the top 25. Angelo State is the only other ranked team in the region at #5. Colorado Mesa, Dallas Baptist, and MSU Denver are all receiving votes.

NPI RANKINGS
The third edition of the NCAA Power Index (NPI) rankings came out Monday and have been updated daily since. Mines remains firmly second in the South Central Region and sit #12 overall. The remaining top eight in the region in seeding order are Angelo State, Dallas Baptist, Colorado Mesa, MSU Denver, UT Tyler, St. Edward's, and South Dakota Mines. The winners of the RMAC and Lone Star Conference (LSC) tournaments will earn automatic qualification with six more selected from the NPI rankings as at-large teams. Currently, UCCS and Colorado Christian are on the outside looking in at #9 and #10 in the region.

RMAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
On Monday, Kaiya Gilbert was named RMAC Setter of the Week and Francesca Nuzzo won RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. Gilbert's award was her seventh of the season. She's also won six of the last seven weekly setter honors. Nuzzo's accolade was her second of the season. Gilbert brought home the distinction after averaging 10.38 assists per set which ranked #1 in the RMAC for the week. She also added 24 digs, five kills on .333 hitting, three total blocks, and one service ace. Nuzzo's week featured 6.13 digs per set which also ranked #1 in the RMAC for the week. SCOUTING CHADRON STATE
Friday's match will be the last of the season for Chadron State as the Eagles sit 10-15 (3-10 RMAC) and mathematically eliminated from the conference tournament. Last weekend, CSC hosted Colorado Mesa and Westminster. The home team pushed CMU to five sets but still lost before getting swept by WU. Chadron State's three conference wins were at Western Colorado, against Black Hills State, and at Regis with two of three coming in five sets. It's worth noting that the Eagles do rank #21 in the nation in blocks per set and #15 in total blocks. Those standings are fueled by Sarah Meservey who individually sits #8 nationally in blocks per set and #6 in total blocks, touting 131 total blocks for an average of 1.34 blocks per set. Other leaders for CSC include Mataya Ward with 306 kills and 27 aces, and Avery Lacy with 423 digs. The Eagles convert at .183 on offense compared to .194 by their opponents.

OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE EAGLES
Mines leads the all-time series against Chadron State, 46-25. The Orediggers' bolstered that margin with 24 straight wins between 2008-22. The Eagles snapped their skid against Mines with a five-set win in Golden in 2023. Last season, the Orediggers took a 3-1 victory from Chadron State in Nebraska. Jenna McLaughlin led Mines to the win with 16 kills on .304 hitting while adding two blocks, and one service ace. Also notable were 11 kills and 17 digs from Francesca Nuzzo. Friday marks the first time Mines and CSC have played in Golden since that dastardly day in 2023.

SCOUTING REGIS
Regis, like Chadron State, will be playing its last match of the season this weekend. The Rangers are 4-22 (2-11 rmac) and ranked 14th in the conference standings. Their last outing included a five-set home win against Westminster before a 3-0 loss at the hands of Colorado Mesa. Regis' other RMAC victory was at home against New Mexico Highlands in a five-set thriller. The Rangers also toppled Eastern New Mexico in five sets in their season opener and took down NMHU in five sets in pod play as well. Individually, Kailyn Polzin leads RU with 210 kills. Both Maddie Lynett and Cady Knight tout 22 aces apiece. Knight also boasts 419 digs while Kendal Allaire is sitting on 56 total blocks. The difference in team attack percentage is .134 for Regis compared to .255 by their combined opponents.

OREDIGGERS AGAINST THE RANGERS
The volleyball rivalry between Mines and Regis currently sits in favor of the Rangers at 52-29-1. The Orediggers closed some of that gap with seven consecutive wins from 2013-15. Even so, Mines is 4-6 across its last 10 meetings with RU. Last season, the Orediggers swept Regis in Denver behind Abbie O'Shay's 12 kills and five blocks with a .550 attack percentage. The last time Mines defeated the Rangers in Golden was Oct. 14, 2022.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, Mines headed north to Black Hills State and South Dakota Mines. The Orediggers swept BHSU and extended their streak of 3-0 wins to 13 with 39 consecutive set victories. Cadence McDonald was the start in that match with 11 kills on .400 hitting and three total blocks. Francesca Nuzzo managed 23 digs in just three sets as well. Naomi Romslo put down three service aces on the Yellow Jackets too. Saturday's match at SDM saw the Orediggers' win a 40th straight set before the streak was halted by the Hardrockers. Colorado School of Mines eventually prevailed in five sets behind McLaughlin' 16 kills and eight total blocks. Romslo, Abbie O'Shay, and McDonald each produced 12 kills. Nuzzo grinded out 26 more digs.

MAGALEI'S MILESTONE
The Orediggers' win at Westminster on Oct. 16 marked the 400th career victory for Mines Head Coach Jamie Magalei. She's the only active coach in the RMAC with more than 400 career wins. With a career record of 403-150, the North Dakota native continues to rank top-20 among all active coaches in NCAA Division II in winning percentage and top-40 in the same group for total wins. The 100th career win of Magalei's career came on Nov. 3, 2012, in a five-set thriller at MSU Denver. She reached 200 in four sets on Oct. 29, 2016, on Senior Night against Regis. Win 300 for Magalei was Sept., 16, 2021. That was also a four-set victory against Regis.

AT THE HELM
The 2026 season marks the 19th with Jamie Magalei at the helm for Mines volleyball. She's the program's all-time leader in total wins (405-150) and win percentage (.730) by a large margin. Magalei is also the longest-tenured and winningest head coach among current RMAC skippers. Furthermore, the North Dakota native entered the 2026 season ranked 18th in winning percentage and 38th in total wins among active DII head coaches. She surpassed 300 career wins in 2021 and 400 career wins earlier this season at Westminster. She was one of six skippers to reach 300 wins while coaching in the RMAC. Through the 2025 season, Magalei has coached 32 all-America selections, three CSC Academic All-Americans, and 72 all-conference performers. Her resume also includes three Regional Players of the Year, two Regional Freshmen of the Year, and 16 RMAC major award winners. Magalei has guided Mines to six RMAC regular-season championships, and five RMAC Tournament titles with 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 2009-22 (no NCAA tournament in 2020) and 14 overall. She also guided the Orediggers to either a conference regular-season or tournament title every season from 2012-21 including a sweep of both in 2015.

MAGALEI LEADS THE RMAC
As referenced above, Mines Head Coach Jamie Magalei is the longest-tenured and winningest head coach among current RMAC skippers. At 405-150 (.730) overall, she's over 200 wins ahead of Grayson DuBose at Black Hills State who is just in his second season at BHSU but his 16th overall. Magalei's also exactly 200 wins ahead of Colorado Christian's Bobby Blanken who entered his 10th season at CCU with 192 victories. Regis' Joel List is also entering his 10th season at Regis which ties him and Blanken for the second-longest tenure in the RMAC among active head coaches.
