Arkansas Qualifier Results
BOULDER, Colo. and FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - A pair of program records fell and Colorado School of Mines runners laid down six NCAA Division II top-10 marks to wrap up the regular season at a pair of last-chance meets on Friday.
Imani Fernandez-Gorbea snapped the women's 800m record while
Jonah Fallon reset his 400m standard at the Arkansas Qualifier, while the Orediggers' 3K runners starred at the Colorado Last Chance.
In Fayetteville, Fallon ran 46.48 in the 400m - four-hundreths under his previous season- and program-best - to improve his national standing to a tie for third in the event. Later, it was a stunning 2:07.06 800m time for Fernandez-Gorbea to take more than four seconds off her previous best recorded two weeks ago and edge out Aryelle Wright's 2023 Mines record of 2:07.60. The time takes Fernandez-Gorbea from outside the bubble for nationals qualification all the way to #5 in D-II, virtually assuring her of a trip to Virginia Beach.
Tim Thompson, already #2 nationally in the 800m, laid down another strong performance heading into the postseason with a 1:49.18 time, and
Liam Currie ran 1:51.91.
Brock Drengenberg won the mile in a season-best 4:01.40, putting him at #16 on the D-II list.
Curtis Smela made his Mines track debut in the mile in 4:13.01.
In Boulder, Mines dominated the 3,000m with the fastest men's and women's at-elevation runs in program history and six total NCAA provisional times. The women's race saw
Grace Strongman and
Emily LaMena cross the line together in 9:33.57 and 9:33.61, respectively, for the #4 and 5 performances in D-II this season, while
Sierra Wall ran an impressive 9:43.23 to likely secure her nationals spot with the D-II #10 performance.
Margaux Basart ran 9:45.60 - #15 nationally - with
Lexi Herr clocking 9:54.42, the #25 national mark.
Paul Knight was the only Oredigger in the men's race but won over D-I competition in a career-best 8:03.75, putting him #3 in the nation.
Aani Hardesty led Mines' sprinters with a personal-best 56.99 400m time, winning the event as she became only the third Oredigger in program history to slip under 57 seconds.
Elizabeth Prescott ran 58.76 and
Maya Evans 59.91 in the event, as well, while
Avary Catchings clocked 2:20.58 as runner-up in the 800m.
For the men,
Crockett Becker became the #6 all-time performer in Mines history in the 200m dash with a 22.54 time, and
Eric Hill Jr. ran a season- and personal-best 23.01. In the 400m,
Logan Meade ran a personal-best 48.54, tying him for fourth all-time at Mines, with
Elijah Quinby timing 48.90 and
Alex Dusseau 50.23.
Owen Schneider ran 1:52.97 to be runner-up in the 800m Invite ahead of
Ty Krafft's 1:55.77.
The Orediggers will head to Gunnison for the two-day RMAC Indoor Track & Field Championships starting Feb. 27.
