MINES RETURNS WITH REGIONAL PREVIEW
Colorado School of Mines comes off the midyear break with the Visit Stockton RJGA D-II Regional Preview in California, a February tune-up featuring the top teams from the West and South Central Regions. On the course that will host the NCAA Regional in May, the Orediggers will compete against four other RMAC schools as well as a host of teams from the Lone Star Conference and the west coast. The field includes four ranked teams in #14 Colorado Mesa, #16 CSU Pueblo, #19 Western Washington, and #23 Cal State East Bay. Tee times are yet to be set for Monday's first two rounds, with the 54-hole tournament concluding Tuesday.
A live leaderboard will be available on Golfstat.
THE FORECAST
Monday is forecast to be perfect conditions with mostly cloudy skies and a high of 68 before rain moves in for a drizzly and breezy Tuesday with highs in the lower 60s.
THE COURSE
The Reserve at Spanos Park, which will host the NCAA West/South Central Regional in May, is a links-style course in Stockton, Calif. designed by Andy Raugust. Playing 7,132 from the championship tees, the course opened in 1999 and features Mt. Diablo as a dramatic backdrop.
LAST TIME OUT
Mines finished the fall back on Oct. 14 with a sixth-place finish at the Otter Invitational led by
Lukas Taggart, who tied for 12th, while
Liam Allan rose to T37 in the final round and
Colt Tenpenny finished T34.
FRESHMEN MAKE DEBUT
The Bob Writz Individual in the fall saw the debut of Mines' developmental squad with five true freshmen -
Davis Kushner, Enzo Martínez,
Devin Nguyen,
Alexander Samuelsson, and
Mitch Stock - playing for the Orediggers. A new NCAA rule in 2025-26 allows true freshmen to compete in a limited number of dates while still maintaining their redshirt status, and the Orediggers will take advantage of that rule this season.
ALLAN GOES LOW
Liam Allan's second round at the San Juan Invitational on Sept. 23 saw him card a 64 (-7) on the par-71 course, Mines' lowest score in nearly a decade. The freshman's round was the Orediggers' lowest since George Markham shot 63 (also -7 on a par 70 course) at the 2016 Maverick Invitational; Nick Berry also carded 64 at the 2015 RMAC Championships with a program-record -8 result.Â
IN THE POLLS
In September, Mines was picked in a tie for second in the RMAC preseason coaches' poll, tied with CSU Pueblo just behind Colorado Mesa while receiving a pair of first-place votes. Mines also received votes in the last GCAA Bushnell/Golfweek Top 25 released to finish up the fall season.
LOOKING AHEAD
Mines' spring continues March 1-3 at the Las Vegas Desert CLassic in Boulder City, Nev.Â
