Mines Men's Club Lacrosse wrapped up a three-game road swing in Arizona this past weekend, finishing 2-1 against strong out-of-state competition and building momentum heading into the heart of the spring season.
Feb. 20 – at Arizona Christian University
Loss, 16-9
The Orediggers opened the weekend against No. 25-ranked Arizona Christian University on Friday night. Mines got off to a slow start, falling behind early as ACU jumped out to a five-goal lead and carried a six-goal advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Mines showed resilience and composure. The Orediggers chipped away at the deficit in the third and fourth quarters, cutting the lead to four goals as momentum began to shift. However, a few late turnovers led to easy transition goals for ACU, sealing a 16-9 loss for Mines.
Despite the result, the second-half surge highlighted the team's ability to adjust and compete with ranked opponents.
Feb. 21 – vs. Northern Arizona University
Win, 14-9
Mines bounced back Saturday evening with a 14-9 victory over Northern Arizona University.
Once again, the Orediggers battled through a slow start filled with early mistakes. Even so, Mines found offensive rhythm and built a 6-2 halftime lead. The second half was much smoother, as the offense continued to capitalize on scoring opportunities while the defense delivered a consistent, disciplined performance throughout the game.
The balanced effort on both ends of the field helped Mines secure the five-goal win and regain confidence heading into Sunday's finale.
Feb. 22 – vs. Long Beach State University
Win, 15-12
Sunday morning's matchup against Long Beach State carried added intensity. LBSU had defeated Arizona Christian in overtime the night before, leaving questions about how the Orediggers would respond after their opening loss.
Mines answered immediately with its fastest start of the season, flying around the field and setting the tone early. The Orediggers trailed 7-5 at halftime after a second-quarter lull, though the defense remained solid overall aside from a few transition breakdowns.
The third quarter turned into a shootout, with Mines scoring five goals and Long Beach adding four. Entering the fourth quarter down one goal, the Orediggers capitalized on key man-up opportunities following LBSU penalties. Strong execution on offense down the stretch helped Mines pull away for a 15-12 win.
Building Momentum
The 2-1 weekend marked a successful road trip for the Orediggers. Team chemistry continues to improve, with players meshing both on and off the field. Competing against quality opponents — including a ranked team — provided valuable experience and helped build momentum as Mines looks ahead to the remainder of the season and a push toward postseason play.
