The Colorado School of Mines Women's Club Lacrosse team wrapped up a successful trip to California with a 2–1 record at the Santa Barbara Shootout, marking the program's first-ever competition on the West Coast.
Mines opened the tournament Friday afternoon with an 11–8 loss to Colorado State University. Despite the result, the Orediggers showed resilience throughout the contest, trading scoring runs and competing until the final whistle in a physical opening matchup.
The Orediggers bounced back in a big way on Saturday, starting with a dominant 14–3 victory over the University of Portland. The offense came alive early, with Mines controlling possession from the opening draw and building a commanding lead. Sophomore Rory Connor was a major factor at the draw circle, controlling possession consistently and setting the tone for the rest of the game. Freshman Adleigh Hagestad and Joy Delaney recorded their first collegiate goals, while the Mines attack showcased balanced scoring across the lineup.
Later Saturday afternoon, Mines closed the tournament with a 12–9 win over Grand Valley State University to finish the weekend on a high note. The Orediggers maintained composure in a tight contest, executing on both ends of the field to secure their second win of the day. Hagestad continued her strong tournament performance, while juniors Zoe Webster, Sophia Surbeck, and Ainsley Soleta provided steady leadership throughout the lineup. Seniors Emma Nelson and Emma Voglewede anchored the team with experience and communication during key moments.
Mines' defensive effort and transition play were highlighted by strong performances in goal, with Madison Langley, Reeve Nyland, and Stella Paxson combining for key saves and clean clears throughout the tournament.
With the 2–1 showing, the Orediggers return to Colorado carrying momentum, confidence, and valuable experience from a historic weekend for the program.
