COLORADO SPRINGS – After a weekend in which he spearheaded a pair of wins over Western Colorado and Westminster to open the month of February, Colorado School of Mines men's basketball junior Alex Romack has been named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week presented by Genesee Nutrition.
 
It is the third time in Romack's career he has earned DPOTW honors and second this season, with the previous coming on January 5. He's the first Oredigger to win multiple Player of the Week Awards since Majok Deng was twice named Offensive Player of the Week in the 2023-24 season.
 
The junior from Westfield, Indiana continued his fine season with two more double-double performances in a weekend sweep of Western Colorado and Westminster by scores of 84-67 and 77-71 in overtime. Thursday against the Mountaineers, he scored 19 points on 7-11 shooting and was 5-7 from the line with 13 rebounds, an assist and a blocked shot in 32 minutes of action. He helped close out the win by scoring 10 of the final 19 points for the Orediggers down the stretch including the go-ahead bucket with 5:12 to play. Saturday against the Griffins, Romack again went for 19 in the overtime win with 11 rebounds on 8-14 shooting including a three-pointer and was 2-2 from the line with four assists and a steal while tying his career high with four blocks.
 
For the season, Romack is second in NCAA Division II and tied for third across all levels of the NCAA with 16 double-doubles this season. He also leads the RMAC in every rebounding category with 234 total rebounds (58 ahead of second) 138 defensive rebounds, 96 offensive rebounds (41 ahead of second) and rebounds per game at 9.4. He's also tied for third in the RMAC in blocked shots with 25 and stands alone in third in field goal percentage at .543.
