GOLDEN, Colo. – The Colorado School of Mines baseball team dropped its non-conference, series finale to Colorado Christian Sunday in a 16-3, run-rule loss.
Two-hit days from
Tyler Easter and
Jack Magnus headlined the offense. Easter,
Ben Leiphart, and
Tyler Hummel scored the three runs. Hummel had one RBI and Magnus recorded two RBI. Magnus and
Alex Dunagan each notched a double. On the mound,
Will Niles (0-1) started and took the loss after seven runs and eight hits in 2.2 innings of work. Brand Schaff,
Grady Booth,
Luke Parker,
Kenji Bray,
Evan Harbach,
Dillon Alcouffe, and
Alex Piscotty all game out of the bullpen for Mines (3-11). Chad Naf (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Colorado Christian. The Cougars powered their finale victory and series win with six home runs in the game. The Orediggers notched nine hits and had one fielding error.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first pitch of the game was a home run for CCU. Mines responded with all three of its runs in the bottom of the second inning. Hummel drove in Easter and Magnus hit a two-run double to plate Hummel and Leiphart. The 3-1 lead didn't last long. Colorado Christian scored six runs in the third and one in the fourth before stacked zeroes in the fifth inning. Six more Cougar runs in the sixth frame and two in the eighth frame enacted the 12-run mercy rule.

- Harbach's relief appearance marked his collegiate debut.

- Magnus also recorded the first two hits of his collegiate career in his first-ever start at Mines.
- Dunagan and Hummel both extended their respective hitting streaks to 13 games. The duo has also reached base safely in 14 consecutive games.
