Colorado School of Mines Men's Rugby traveled to Boulder on March 14 to compete in the CU Boulder 7s tournament, facing a competitive field and challenging windy conditions throughout the day. The Orediggers finished the tournament in fourth place after a series of hard-fought matches.
Mines opened the day with a commanding 34–0 win over CU Boulder B. The Orediggers came out with strong energy, setting the tone early by playing fast and physical rugby. Momentum stayed firmly on their side as they controlled possession and capitalized on scoring opportunities to secure a convincing shutout victory.
In their second match, Mines faced CSU A and fell 41–7. The Orediggers struggled to find their rhythm against a strong CSU side but continued to battle throughout the match. Their persistence paid off with a late try, showing resilience even as the game slipped out of reach.
The third match of the day proved to be the most thrilling. Taking on UCCS, Mines found themselves in a back-and-forth contest that stayed tight from start to finish. Both teams traded scores throughout the match before the Orediggers secured a dramatic 26–24 victory on the final play of the game, sealing one of the most exciting finishes of the tournament.
Mines closed out the day against CU Boulder A, ultimately falling 33–12. Despite the loss, the Orediggers competed well against a strong opponent and continued to show flashes of strong attacking play.
Battling through gusty winds and a challenging schedule of matches, the Orediggers demonstrated resilience and competitive spirit throughout the tournament. Mines finished the day in fourth place and will look to build on the experience as they prepare for the next stage of the 7s season.
